Well well, they're pretty decent eh GT!!

Really like 1, 4 & 5. 2 is just how it should have been before, must be nice to have such nice posing birds. Seems the faster shutters did the job there.

Some great shots there GT, nice colours captured in the last one.

On a different subject does anyone know of any companies that will hire out cameras or even just let you roam about with one for a while?

I'm really stuck bewteen a Nikon D200 and a Canon 30D. I have used a 5D and liked it but still don't want to buy one. I also loved the D200 but want to give Canon another go before switching to Nikon...I have always been a Canon fan but had all my stuff nicked years ago and then went the Rangefinder route, Nikon has never entered my mind until the quick play with the D200.

A friendly Jessops (or similar) person may give you half an hour with photo ID or maybe just buy it in full then take it back. Sure that's pretty standard.

Not sure I like the idea of buying then returning:

          a) I don't want ot get stuck with something I don't want
          b) I'm a clumsy idiot (more reason for the D200) and scratch any shiny new item I own within minutes!

I did pop to Jessops the other day but they would only let me try it with a really crap old Tamron lens.

            Ta,

Gareth, Calumet & The Flash Centre will hire out camera equipment(both should have local centres in london). Though best to try to blag a free test from someone like Jacobs. Jessops store vary from place to place, so you might want to try another.

Cheers Chaps! I had forgotten about Calumet and will be going past it tomorrow anyway. Will report back with my findings!

With the Canon vs Nikon debate I think it all depends on whether you intend to shoot low light/high ISO, as Canon clearly has the edge in that department due to the CMOS sensor. Other than that it all depends on what feels right for you in terms of ergonomics and the system in general.

Wowz. The quality of pics in this thread keeps shooting higher and higher.

Seriously, have any of you guys considered submitting pics to Alamy? It can't hurt...

Yes, but GT's birdy shots have ****e bokeh so I suggest we order him to get the 300 f/2.8 at once!!!

Only joking of course! Great shots, people!

How much do they actually pay though? It only says 65% of each sale, not what a sale is worth.

Also, how do you get the images big enough to submit? They want ~40mb for an A4 image!

I imagine that saving them as Tiffs/EPS's will bump them up close to that size.

They specifically ask for jpegs though, that's what's confusing me !

Yes, that was something I considered. It depends on whether I need to sell my R-D1 to finance it. My current plan is to keep the R-D1 for the fact that I have two excellent f1.2 lenses...also excellent 'bokeh' producers! I haven't seen any reasonably priced lenses for Canon, and especially Nikon, that can produce images at wide aperture that aren't terrible in the corners and with horrible 'bokeh'.

The 40mb is the uncompressed image. Use photoshop to interpolate them up to the required size. My uncompressed images from the 5D are around 36mb (after conversion to 8bit - jpeg doesn't support 16bit). Also they dont like sharpened images, they believe it's up to the end user to tweak them for their requirements.

I keep meaning to send some stuff to Alamy, only issue some might have is payment. They'll just send you a cheque/bank trans. Its up to you to pay tax on this income.

Not sure about what they pay, but for me anything would be nice!

Richard, I was fairly close to buying the 300mm f/2.8 but saving 2k helped me return to the real world.

May have a go at that then to see what happens.
