That second one reminds me of a Transformer

Nice and sharp shots. Particularly given how fast they must have been moving.

Another shot from me. I've not really had the will to leave the house this weekend so its another household macro I'm afraid.

For some reason, I thought that was a photo of some maggots writhing on a cymbal - but now I realise it's rice in a wok!

My mum emailed me last night: "why have you got maggots in your house?"

Merf, you're not new to photography are you? Great shots if you are.

GT, how much crop is on the 2nd shot? If you caught that full frame I'm VERY impressed. Going to see the Eastbourne and Shoreham airshows this year but doubt I have enough reach for anything like that.

          Ish, ergh, maggots!

            thanks for the nice feedback

these are my first slr shots, only used compacts for family snaps otherwise.

i'm crediting the good shots to the amazing Nikon d40x and the VIP passes that got me nicely seated away from the masses !

Alistair, roughly how long ago did you post how to link to flickr pages with images (i went back a while but couldn't find it) ?

There you go. What modes were you shooting with Merf? Specifically referring to the first one, there's no way the camera 'knew' to get that little bit of blur.

PS - never credit the camera, only blame it when things go wrong, it's all photographers skill when it goes right

cheers for the link, I'll try that later as fiddling with a couple of other pics i'll try to get up.

i was using the camera's sport mode and attempting to pan/track the riders rather than just bracing myself for a static shot.

i ended up with 3 or 4 shots of every rider.

Ta for the tip, in which case it must be my innate natural talent as a photographer, have to say it was quite fortunate though that by far my best shots were the winner Cancellara, Kloden and David Millar.

That's more like it, big yourself up.

I was out again last night at a Hip Hop Festival event, the Battlejam. Was there 2 hours and took over 200 shots, quite a lot are OOF though so I'll get the number down, may not get a chance to process them until Wednesday at this rate though, pesky work! Had a quick browse last night and got some good shots of the drummers, will def share them as soon as I can. Wont be tonight as I have my first photography class

Good lord, people, you blow me away.
Dan, those pics are wonderfully moody. Perfect inky black. And the b&w punch one is priceless. Why haven't I seen you post up photos in ages?

Alastair, I just realised my friend was/is performing some breakdancing at the Hip Hop festival. Have you got any b-boy pics?

--- Below is redundant, but kept for posterity (??)

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap 2GB xD card?
There are plenty of places like dvd.co.uk, amazon marketplace etc, but I need it by Wednesday for definite. Jessops etc have them but they want £50 for them. Crazy people!

Edit - Never mind! Ordered a Lexar one for £35 with next day delivery from ebuyer. Should be here tomorrow!
I'll let you know how the Fuji F31fd is over the next couple of days too! Now, if only I were keeping it...

                      Am I in trouble?!

Glad you liked the shots. As for the lull in posted photos, it was only this weekend just gone that I went to my local venue as I had decided to photograph live music performances - I think it could be my niche. And besides, there are only so many photos I can take of the wife or my cats. There's not much in walking distance of where I live that is that inspirational for taking photos; so, after having a good think about what to do, I decided that seeing as I like music so much, and have a wonderful music venue in the next town over that acts as a spiritual second home (where I am always welcome and everyone knows my name), that was the thing for me Seems to have been just the ticket so far.

Expect some shots of Saturday's band (World Inferno Friendship Society) very soon

Depends if he (I say he as you said B-Boy) made the final of the crews battle. I was only there for the finals as I didn't fancy 8 hours sitting on the floor in a hot sweaty theatre.

I'll put the best ones up on Wednesday but the actual B-Boy ones are poor as there were so many people in such a small place that it was almost impossible to get an angle. I had to swap to the kit lens and use on board flash it was that rammed

Dan, I'm starting to love gig/live performance photography too, can we both have the same niche?

                          Sure, we can share niches

And if you ever want to pop up to Tunbridge Wells one Friday or Saturday night, we can go to the Forum and take some niche live performance photos in a niche-y kinda way at the niche-y kind of same time!
