"Holiday season" and "Fall" sound an awful lot like American sayings to me.

It's called Holiday Season in the US cause it starts with Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas and New Year. ie, a season with multiple holidays in it.

Sorry, I'm being such a pedant today...

That is exactly what I did, only I'd already pressed submit post before thinking "hmm, here here doesn't really make a lot of sense"!

Indeed, both American phrases that are (or at least seem to me to be) becoming more and more commonplace over here. I suppose "Holiday Season" is much more politically correct as Christmas is fundamentally a Christian festival, afterall we do live in a country that likes to think of itself as a multiculturalism pioneer.

Can I just ask: who the hell is calling it "leaf fall season?"

            Comment

              The London transport people.

I might start calling my mum "mom" and jam "jelly".

It is probably called leaf fall season for the uneducated iditiots that don't understand the leaves generally fall from the trees in autumn.

Everytime a US show mentioned 'peanut butter and jelly sandwiches', I would think 'EEEEWWWWW'.

The amount of people on (UK!) forums that spell Mum with an "o" irks me greatly. Wrong thread but hey

What does it say about me that upon seeing this headline:

Man stabbed to death at butchers
My first thought was "there's a joke in there somewhere."

Also, I'd like to point out that quotation marks are traditionally depicted as 66s or 99s. What the hell are those things in the quote box up there?
