Yeah Dana needs to sort out the heavyweight belt, hopefully Lesnar will do the decent thing in the New Year and relinquish the title - assuming he's no better.

Really does hope he gets better though, don't get me wrong.

I wonder if there is some time scale that a title defence has to be made within?

Granted Lesnar is quite ill at the moment, but with time to recover from that, and then get back up to speed in training in order to put up a defence, it would be quite a bit of time I imagine before we were to see him again. In the meantime, the heavyweights in some way are treading water to a timescale that they do'nt know.

I'm sure Lesnar does'nt just to want to wave the title goodbye, but if he were to rush back in order to defend it, could he give a good accout of himself or possibly do him self some damage (besides what his opponent might do)?

Let the top 2 contenders go toe-to-toe I reckon. One has to be Mir, so who would be his opponent?

        UFC 108 anyone?

Contest was on yesterday (Sat 2nd Jan).

Won't post any opinions in case not everyone has seen it yet.

        ps. Semtex!

UFC 108 was great but it was crap compared to the 6-7 hour K-1 Dynamite traditional year end marathon...

Loads of K-1 kickboxing (under 18's tourny), Dream Super Hulk final and the 9 Dream vs Sengoku fights made this K-1 Dynamite flipping awesome.

Highlight for me was this but don't watch it if you feel squimish!!!

Watched some of 110 last night. Nice to see Wand get the win over Bisping. I was expecting him (Bisping) to put in an aggressive performance, but it was the same old same old, back peddling with a soft jab style, trying to win on points - what happened to fighters trying to finish fights?

Valasquez absolutely demolished Nog but I think that’s got more to do with Nog losing his durability. Would you believe he’s only 33? :S

Also, nice to see Crocop back in the winning column. From what I saw it was blatant mismatch but credit to the bloke who stepped in - I think he was a 205lber.

Yeah, he looks great on his feet. Though I do worry what will happen when he faces someone with a decent ground game; I can see someone like Paulo Thiago making quick work of him.

Oh, and did you see Rashad vs. Silva? Rashad didn’t even throw a punch, nearly got knocked out but still won on takedowns… rule change please!

not the greatest of UFCs last night, maybe one for the ground game purists in general

that said Carwin looked a beast in putting Mir's lights out, know he was at walk-around weight but in the interviews at the end Lesnar looked far bigger than him, and Carwin entered the ring at the heavyweight max. can't wait to see that match up but think Lesnar should have a tune up first.

GSP was simply in another league to Dan Hardy, kudos to him for sticking it out and not submitting but he didn't really land a meaningful glove on GSP, says a lot for the fight that Hardy's best moments were escapes

                Just finished watching it.

Not a classic, but its good to know who will be fighting Lesnar next.

As Merf said, when Lesnar came into the ring to congratulate Carwin, he just looked sooooo much bigger than Carwin. Shane weighed in @ 260ish, so what must Lesnar be weighing in at? I think I've read somewhere Lesnar goes upto 280?!

Either way, it should be a good fight, but I can't help but think Lesnar will take it to the mat where his better wrestling skills will prevail.

GSP v Hardy was all one way. Hats off to Hardy for not tapping out on some vicious armbars.

Anyone see Silva Vs Maia? Crazy!

                  Comment

Yeah. Can't believe Silva has let it get to this point where people are booing him. If he did what he is capable of he would be nothing less than a God in MMA right now.

He showed complete disrespect to Maia. We all know he isn't as good but still a proud, solid fighter. Apologising straight after didn't do him any favours - he just looked a dick.

At least Lesner heels out properly - he may as well have flipped off the crowd!

Silva was a disgrace and has Dana White fuming, talk of making him the first champ to fight on the undercard !

I though in the first round he had the tools to obliterate Maia but then just went mental in the second with weird showboating then after that stopped punching totally. Was a really odd performance and quite rightly the crowd hated it.

Dana stormed off before the end and refused to present the belt at the end.

Like you say Lesnar performs then heels it up, Silva is just bizarre, crowd want to boo for what you say, not stinking out the ring.

Bah! This is the first event since I started watching the UFC (circa UFC 94/95) that due to the negativity towards of some of the fights, I have not bothered watching the show.

Silva absolutely infuriates me! How can someone with so much talent be such a dick!

Hopefully his proposed next challenger, and one of my fave fighters, Chael Sonnen, will grip him, take him to the mat and own him like he did against Marquardt.

I think UFC kind of slipped up with putting the Silva fight on when trying to break into new territory (middle east). Surely after displaying similar tendencies in previous matchup's, I think it would have been wise to have the Mir/Carwin fight the headliner instead (granted it was UFC 111). No chance of that pair getting up to those sort of antics.

                          I agree.

Then again I think they should have headlined with Bonner v Griffin again!

Dana's reaction was great - apparantly he threw the belt at Silva's cornermen and just left the building. He should have him open the show next time - see if it wakes him up.

Can't wait until GSP gets his hands on Silva - THAT will be interesting. Silva's been exposed cardio-wise now so GSP will surely exploit that. Griffin went in on fire and got embarassed. I reckon if he was cautious and got to round 4 or 5 and in the same situation as Maia he could have beat him.

                          Comment

But they (Silva/GSP) are not in the same weight division.

Unless they fight at a catch weight, why would either of them want to fight the other, bearing in mind that the other, which ever one, is, pp, the best at their ideal weight.

I would guess it would be harder for Silva to go down in weight as he's hardly got any excess weight on him as it is.

I think Sonnen will pose some serious questions for Silva if he can get him down on the mat and turn it into a 'floor fight'. Sonnen has got some serious cardio skills. He can go 3 rounds at pretty much full throttle.

However, if you look at one of the threads on Sherdog about a Silva/Sonnen matchup it seems I'm completely wide of the mark and Silva will pretty much own Sonnen on the ground. Shows how much I know!

                            Comment

Silva hasn't been tested on the ground to my knowledge since I've been watching the UFC but is meant to possess some serious BJJ skills.

I have the impression of Silva he's a bit lazy and does what he has to do to beat opponents he regards as vastly inferior to him, he's one of this guys who only performs at 5% above wht he thinks is in front of him.

He does clearly get gassed but even against Maia his kicks and punches when he did throw them looked awesome, as was his takedown defence.

Apparantly Silva would come down to 170. He needs to move up if anything.

The entire point of GSP sitting ringside was to promote the possibility of a match between him and Silva. The commentators also mentioned it multiple times.
