Also i seem to have solved my battery problem, it was either doom resurrection or a map app drianing it, guna install one tonight and see which one, as i was quite enjoying doom.

Sorry if it's been mentioned before but I noticed that TomTom put a load of stuff up a couple of weeks back.

Has anybody tried it yet?

It'll be Notifications. So whichever of those... you can either uninstall, or just switch off Notifications via the Settings.

There's a link from the comments on that article to a page on Apple's site where they list the carriers, along with whether they'll allow authorised unlocking, so perhaps the 'loophole' (such as it is!) will remain!

From what i have seen written elsewhere the gps receiver in the touch is prone to lose the connection but that the windscreen mount contains another gps receiver to counter this problem.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has tried as i would be tempted to get the tomtom apps. instead of buying a standalone unit.

I can't speak for the TomTom app, but I do use the CoPilot one. To be honest, I'm not sure if it's the hardware, or the software, but I wasn't particularly impressed.

I'd wait until the TomTom app and/or the CoPilot ones get an update...

Does anyone know how much it costs to have the screen of an iPhone replaced?

I dropped mine yesterday and now has a massive spiders web-esque crack over the top half of it - its still perfectly usable as its just the outer glass which is broken.

A quick google has revealed a number of sites with varying prices but I wanted to check whether anyone had first-hand experience with this.

Mine did that. I had to get it replaced completely at the Apple Shop.

?200 for a 3G 16g replacement from there... Not fun. Have you got insurance?

Nope, no insurance but as it's just the screen that's cracked, I've found a couple of places online that will replace it for around ?50 which is why I'm reluctant to take it to Apple.

Idiot n00b questions, since I'm just entering the last month of an o2 contract...

The o2 tarrifs with Unlimited data, does that mean that the internet is completely free? Forever? No matter how often it's used?

If I upgrade on o2, will I get a better price or am I going to be stuck paying new customer rates? My contract is only £15pm at the moment and I do fully expect to have to pay more than that, but there'll be some benefit to upgrading vs. a new customer, right?

You can upgrade with O2 during the final month.

Internet is pretty much unlimited, they'll write and tell you if you're using too much. They explained it to me that I'd be OK so long as I wasn't using the phone as a modem for a PC.

I don't have an iphone but am on the same tariff. I called to ask about the iphone when I upgraded and it was explained to me that they would not budge at all on tariffs or phone costs no matter how long you had been a customer.

Therefore, I got a nokia 5800 free and negotiated a third off my tariff for the full 18 months instead.

If the fact that Orange and Vodaphone will have the iphone from December (is that right?) will make a difference to pricing etc after that I don't know but at the moment I think you'll have to pay the going rate.

I was with o2 for several years before upgrading to the iPhone, and got absolutely nothing. You'll pay the same as everyone else :/

the Internet is 100% "free". Meaning you can use it as much as you like and you won't get charged extra, but you do pay for it in the high contract prices.
