Pipex. What a bunch of useless fu...
So my Dads been getting a load of nuisance calls from scammers, and we've brought him into the modern age and got him a house phone with caller display so he doesn't have to pick up for unknown numbers. Except the service doesn't come as standard with Pipex so I ring them to activate it.
After 10 minutes on hold (at my expense) the totally disinterested Indian gentleman tells me it's done. A week later and it still doesn't work. Phone them up again and the slightly more enthusiastic Indian lady says it will now be activated with 24 - 48 hours.
Then my Dad gets a phonecall saying he now has to ring another number to activate it on the line. Seriously WTF!?
I wasn't there when he took the call and I'm inclined to believe it was another scammer trying it on. Or that Pipex themselves are scammers by trying to get you to pay through the nose in expensive phonecalls.

Women that expect you to be a mind-reader.
You all know what I'm talking about.
I was having a discussion about this with my girlfriend the other night, where she claimed she "dropped several hints" to me about something she wanted to address, and was criticising me because I'd failed to pick up on those hints.
In response, I simply told her that I am not a mind-reader, and if she has something to tell me, she should just come straight out with it.
Her excuse, as with most women, is "You should know" or "You should be able to pick up on the hints..."
Bollocks. If I want to tell you something, I tell you. I don't tiptoe around the issue and expect you to guess exactly what's on my mind; and that's the other thing that irks me about this as well. The fact that what you're supposed to know is usually so way out there, that when you do learn you're thinking "How the f**k was I supposed to know that!?".
What is it women find so difficult about just saying what they mean!? Why are we expected to play stupid guessing games all the time?
OK rant over...

Oh dont get me started on this mate. Sometimes even when I get that its a little hint or a snide comment & ask what its all about I still get nowhere, so how the hell am I supposed to know when you dont even tell me when I do pick up on a hint?
Bloody women!!

Irk of yesterday: changing my address with the post office = $42 and takes 5 business days. Meh, would just leave it and not pay any bills that arrive but I have a game coming so I can't. Gah.

A company calling my mother pretending to be Microsoft. Telling her she has loads of viruses, and getting her to click on a "Remote Assistance" link, afterwhich they:
- Install a hidden remote control tool, that uses an unpatched windows print spool security weakness to gain admin priv.
- Install a trojan horse key logger
- Install a Bit Torrent client
- Install 4-5 useless AV/AntiSpyware applications
- Remove her legitmate AV software (Installed by Me)
- Get my mother to pay them ?65 for the effort.
Poor woman, (Well into pension age) she said she knew she was done for when her mouse started moving, but let them do it & paid as she was frightended they would delete her files....
Trading standards know all about it, but are powerless to help as the company is based in India and uses a VOIP UK number to call.
Here is more about it:
Serious crime body says almost a quarter of UK web users have been approached by fraudulent 'IT helpdesks' offering to check their computers for viruses
And here:
Britons targeted by cold callers pretending to be from Microsoft phoning to fix a fake computer problem
I feel so sorry for her, so was duped and knew it, but just fell for it due to fear and the way they said they were appointed by Microsoft.
