Smartphone and tablet price gouging. When I first got an HTC Desire it worked out as ?400 over the life of the 18 month contract which is high but ok for what it did. Since then everyone thinks they can charge Apple prices totally ignoring what made the earlier Android phones as popular as they've become, the price. The funny thing is a lot of the tablets aren't selling but would for a reasonable price, just see the HP TouchPad.
Luckily commoditisation can't be far off and they'll have to start giving the handsets away so I've dropped out of the smartphone market until then. I'm sure the companies aren't losing any sleep over it at the minute as they're raking it in but it still irks me.
Was having a look at the T-Mobile price for the iPhone and they want ?25.54 for 24 months and ?280 for the handset (?892). F*** that for a laugh!Last edited by NW2013; 30-08-2011, 17:14.

ITV1+1.
I missed the start of Poirot last night, so thought I'd watch it on +1. Only to find a screen up for the entire duration for the programme saying that for legal reasons they couldn't show it.
I understand it's got something to do with contracts with programmes, and not being able to show certain things on +1 because it's counted as a separate channel, and they'd have to pay twice. Or adverts, or some ****e. No doubt some Friend of Big Business will be along to tell me what's what, but frankly, I don't care. What's the point in a +1 channel if you're not committed to showing all your content +1?
Or at least, if it's counted as a different channel, put something else up that you can show for free. Don't put up a 2-hour-long duller-than-testcard static announcement. Even if it's just a feed to a camera focused on a girl jiggling her tits for 2 hours.
In fact, scrap Poirot, let's have that anyway.

Grrr... My OCZ Vertex 2 SSD completely died on me.
Causes the bios to time out when trying to detect it, Windows doesn't recognise it. Tried it in another PC, that won't boot with it plugged in. Everything on it is completely and utterly unrecoverable. First time I've ever had a drive die to the extent where I can't even boot into linux and salvage non-corrupt files.
?160 sodding quid and it died after 4 months. Last time I buy something form OCZ, I understand drives failing in a week or after a few years but failing after a few months gets me angry. I have to pay to get it shipped to the Netherlands too which will probably cost me ?20+ and take a month or so plus, as I can't clear the drive, I've got to trust them with the stuff on there. Think I'll stick it straight on Ebay when I get a new one sent back, my SSD experiment/dream is over...
Just glad I've at least backed up my bitcoin wallet or I'd have lost even more money.

Price scalping and the eBay mentality of if somethings hard to find stock gets hovered up and listed on eBay. Quite a few products I've seen at reasonably prices mere weeks before have since disappeared, the only option I have as a consumer is to pay double rrp on ebay. I recently tried to find some fisherprice dc super friends figures for my little boy as he got a batcave for his birthday (a toy that is widely available on the highstreet and online), and a ?6 figure is about 20 quid+ thanks to eBay, likewise a ?20 rapunzel doll we were going to buy for my little girl is in the regions of about ?60 now.
It dosent seem to be a stock issue as if you look on eBay or amazon marketplace there are plenty of stock, it seems to be the more money than sense consumer happy to pay over the odds and pushing the price up.
It's not just limited to harder to find items, eBay used to be a place to pick up a bargins but everything seems to sell for over the odds even if something is still widely available elsewhere.
