Alex Salmond is coming over as a big headed smug twat too.

Just seen some presenter/analyst for the BBC2 Newsnight special write off the Lib Dems yet again, making an outright statement that they will never get a majority vote and that Clegg will never be prime minister. Regardless of any outcome, it's comments like this which make people feel like their vote doesn't matter, and keeps politics as a two-horse race.

Quite irresponsible of the BBC to allow it IMO, surely as a publicly-funded corporation they should remain relatively neutral when dealing with stuff like this (after all, they certainly were when inviting Nick Griffin onto Question Time, weren't they? Got them some nice viewing figures that did...).

      Annoying.

To be honest, Lib Dems won't stand any chance of getting the most seats of the three parties, let alone a majority. The stats involved in that happening would require a massive shift in voting patterns. They're 100-1 to get the majority and even then, that's not a smart bet.

They can however get a strong minority and have a huge amount of power in a hung parliament.

I have to confess I found it far more compelling than I thought as a piece of pure entertainment. I don't believe what they say as even if well intentioned by the time the 'Sir Humphreys' (one for older forumites) have got to the policies its never happens anyway.

I loved the bit at the end when Brown darted off to press the flesh in the crowd and the other 2 decided they had to do it as well.

2nd debate will be interesting as they are warmed up now and both will be after Clegg a bit more and less inclined to agree with him.

Obviously the Lib Dems aren't going to win on a national basis, but the problem with statements of that kind is that they marginalise the 40% of constituencies in which the Lib Dems were in either first or second place at the last election. They probably won't win a majority nationally, but they may well be able to where you live.

ITV's coverage was bearable, but I was annoyed at their statement saying that if the Tories want to gain power they have to win Bolton. That's not true.
Also, they had one of those turn a nob graph gimmicks and at one point Brown was halfway between neutral and positiove and the reporter said something along the lines of "a muted response from the audience". Again, not true. Anything more than neutral is positive!

If the Tories get in, the blame lies with FaRTImuDD.

                  AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHH

I'm getting totally narked off with the way none of the parties have anything good to say about themselves, so they spend the whole time saying how we are doomed with the others.

I was annoyed before, but it's so constant. Where are the manifesto messages? Where's the "we are going to scap the trident upgrade to save the country £96bn"? Where's the "we care", rather than "the others don't care".

                  ffs.

Well for scrapping Trident, you want to be looking at the Lib Dem manifesto:

Incidentally, they are not proposing unilateral disarmament, as the Tories and Labour would have you believe – they're instead arguing we can find a cheaper alternative.

The tabloids have woken up and now see the Lib Dems as a 'threat'

NICK Clegg’s image as the squeaky clean man of politics lies in tatters today as details of his lavish spending of taxpayers’ money are laid bare.

Ah, the sights and sounds of the Tory press ****ting themselves. Always good for a laugh

You've really got to laugh at the murdoch owned press.

It's the only thing that prevents you becoming horribly depressed

Anyone got footage of Cameron being egged?

Anyway, the debate tonight is about international affairs and will include defence (but not Trident!!!??!). Should be interesting.

Not much reaction today, I guess the novelty is wearing off a bit I thought Clegg was once again the best for giving the most direct answers.

Both Brown and Cameron attacked him over his idea for an amnesty for illegal immigrants that are already here, but when he responded (paraphrasing) "But they ARE here, so if my idea is crap, what would you do about all those illegal immigrants?" neither of them gave an answer. I hate it when politicians attack a policy but have no alternative of their own.
