I've driven 1500 miles in the last 8 days. Where I'm learning to do my new job I'm spending a lot of time with existing field managers in the north.

This past week has seen me in Peterborough, Sheffield, Wakefield, Bradford and Burton-upon-Trent.

Next week it's back to Sheffield for 2 days and then the tail end of the week in Manchester (a plus is that my hotel is over the road from Old Trafford).

Drive by my grandparent's old house on King's Road (number 99) while you're in Old Trafford. Lots of summers spent there when I was damn young.

Decided to rebuild and refine my desktop today.

        Suddenly it was midnight. Ooops.

          Barclaycard.

My credit card got damaged so I ordered a replacement. The card is only used in emergencies (luckily none of which I've had recently) so I've forgotten the PIN. I'm away on business again this week so I figured I'd put any expenses I incur on it and then pay the balance once work pay me back my claim.

In trying to remember the PIN while making a small "test" purchase I exceeded my tries and blocked the card.

I logged into my Barclaycard account to get a PIN reminder and because I have ordered a replacement card I am not able to check my PIN online or by calling them up and talking to somebody for 30 days!! I have to wait for them to send me a letter through the post.

I called them up to ask for the PIN over the phone, but again, no go. It's an added security feature so as to stop potential fraud but it doesn't help me out this coming week.

What doubly irked me was the customer service rep continually repeating "I understand your concern"... Obviously you don't mate otherwise you'd give me my poxy PIN!!

Lol, you thought they'd give you your PIN over the phone?

Lol, it's an option on my account. Once I've logged in you can choose to get your PIN via phone.

When my parents that need IT help, but also 'like a glass of wine in the evening'. Which essentially means that the only time I can help them is when they are too sozzled to understand/remember anything. Cue lots of comments of 'it was working fine till you changed it', when changing 'it' allowed them to move away from a knackers broadband provider and suddenly be able to watch catch up TV.

Or pointing out that the reason so and so's wasn't receiving emails was because they had the wrong email address. Or the reason that 'Gloria' wasn't receiving emails was that Gloria had blocked all emails from outlook.com and everything was going into her spam folder.

And then skinning the top of my head on a door frame whilst tripping over a dog.

And going back to work tomorrow.

My boss applied for and took a new job at work without telling any of the people on our team until it was announced on Friday afternoon. As of tomorrow morning, she'll be working in a different department. Nobody knows what we're going to do in the short-term. As I work directly with her, I'll have to pick up her workload and that of the guy who'll be leaving on Friday as well. Nice of her to let us know.

To make matters worse, earlier on Friday we all had a meeting where we grilled her boss about when we're going to move to different teams ourselves. We've had six months of uncertainty and little to no reassurance or communication from management at work about long-term job security and a few people are afraid for their jobs. She sat through that meeting and said nothing, knowing that she was safe.

One thing i've learnt with age, is that most people dont really give a monkeys chuff about you. Nearly everyone i know suits themself.

Sorry to say, you can believe in karma and that as much as you like but if you see a work opportunity, you have to jump on it.
I do think it was a bit of dick move not giving something of a heads up to you though.

It was a dick move not letting anyone on our team know. She was supposed to be handling part of this process but as soon as she moved out to a dev team, she abandoned that responsibility.

We had another meeting today. All along we've been told to sit tight and wait to be moved to a new team. Now we've been told that we have three months of actual work left and if we don't find a new position in that time, we risk redundancy. The natural effect of this is that everyone is now applying for the job I enquired about last week, and we're all being pitted against each other for anything else that comes up.

FFS. I've skirted redundancy twice in the last five years already, I just want a stable job where I can save up for a trip to Japan and a deposit on a nice place somewhere.

                          Gutted for you, mate.

Anyway, start looking elsewhere asap and take advantage of that lull people fall into where they'll hang around a bit to see what positions turn up at work rather than get proactive on the hunt.

Got one of them slow-burning coldy things going on. Wish it would sod off. Got that 'lumpy' catarrh feeling all up in my sinus but can't snark up the lumpy stuff. Semi-blocked ears. Had it 3 days now. Wish it'd go away, I don't get man flu, I just turn into an irritable git until it sods off.

                              Don't touch any dairy!

Someone posted about it on Facebook a while back(how dairy creates more mucus). I assumed it was bollocks but one day I thought "sod it, let's see what happens" and it bloody worked!

These days colds and stuff clear a lot more quickly if I stay away from milk, cheese, etc. Usually they clear before they even hit properly.

The Dairy Council of California says it's a myth and that may be so but I've become wary of associations for something saying it isn't bad.

                                Huh, that's interesting.

I don't consume dairy on a daily basis mind you, but I'll keep in mind to extra stay away if I'm ever in that kind of state again.
