Arriving home from work with a bag of shopping, I couldn't find my key.

Turns out I'd left the key in the front door in the morning. Madness. The door was locked so all I'd had to do was remove the key and put it in my pocket but for whatever reason I hadn't.

Being glad I'm in Japan, I entered my flat and found nothing untoward. Heading to the kitchen area, I noticed a beeping sound: I'd left the freezer door open a bit. The stuff inside was mostly fine but things near the top had defrosted a bit. But at least I've solved the mystery of how a bunch of ice lollies mysteriously melted a few months ago!

So, you left your freezer door open for a few months?

Or someone is mysteriously entering your flat and *closing* the freezer door when you leave it open? Japanese landlord service perhaps?

        Of course not.

A few months back we noticed all the ice creams and ice lollies were melted but everything else was fine. I wondered if the freezer being full to the brim was the cause because the air can't circulate well(although I'm not sure if this is that big an issue) but I guess maybe once before I'd left the freezer door ajar.

This time it was because a rather large nashi in the vegetable compartment below was blocking the freezer door from closing smoothly and because I was in a rush to leave and also my brain felt like molasses.

Haha imagine if someone was coming in and closing the freezer. I guess that's what the maintenance fee covers

Modern road changes, especially endless speed limit decreases and lane reductions. Usually it's because of pedestrians having been hit but I swear it feels like no-one ever questions the context of black spots. Pedestrians at a crossing? Fine. Pedestrian in the middle of a three lane 60mph bypass? Jog on.

Walking down a flight of stairs and having a brain fart as you reach the bottom step, so you are unsure if you have any more steps left.

            or is that just me?

Irked by the modding/censorship that just happened, a ridiculous overreaction from one person, and an embarassment that the mods felt the need to act on it.

Jesus Christ, get some perspective. Is this the first word that has to be completely stricken from the English language? What if I had been talking about stuff for putting out fires, would it be alright then?

You make one word into a 'pariah' word and it just gets replaced by another, until that becomes the new offensive term. We need to erase words altogether, then people can't possibly offend anyone with their attempts at communication.

I object to the use of the word 'daft' as a substitute, because I had an auntie who was a bit daft and it offends me. Please change it to 'idiotic'. Would that be kosher if it offends idiots? Can I say kosher? I don't even know what to type. (Sorry to all the Christians for my earlier slip.)

Lol, I was going to post this myself. I find this doubleplusungood.

Well yeah, but then again it's a different word: retardant.

And I think you're missing the point a bit. The reason why some people object to casual use of that word is that it was once a widely used neutral term for people with what we'd now call learning disabilities.
Nowadays it's much more commonly used in a pejorative sense to mean stupid or similar. So surely you can see why some people might get a bit upset about it?

Daft, on the other hand, is a relatively innocuous word that's never been used in a similar, serious context. I know you were just making a point, but being offended by it would be bizarre.

"Idiot" and "imbecile" were also medical terms, to name but two. I hereby propose their removal sitewide!

Leave Darwock alone. Living in Japan changes your attitude to words. They still use handicapped, ffs.

Yes agreed with the above that that modding was a bit OTT.
