Yeah, the potential loss of this very specific thing is what will cause a huge amount of businesses to collectively **** themselves.

Sarcasm? I work with several businesses that currently put ALL their ad spend into it because it's those 2nd or 3rd time interactions that convert. Not the first time websearch that got prospects to their sites.
Personally I put all my effort into SEO so that sheer number of hits from free search gets results. Saves time mucking about looking good on social too (which I'm RUBBISH at )

I can understand the difficulties that come with marketing. I can definitely understand the draw of very targeted marketing I can see the challenges that will come if it disappears. But I'm with this:

Don't build a business around stealing your "customers" data then, shrugs.

And FB can get shot into the sun for all I care. It's invasive, crosses way too many lines and it's not a future I want to build.

But if your on there, that's part of the problem, the only way to get rid of this stuff is just to not use it, then they cant get your data.

Google do have retargeting, although their main option is search, which seems a legit source of revenue. Facebook is pure data mining.
