It has to come from a goverment body to keeps things legal and stops shareholders Suing, Shell is beholden to the markets so sells its commodity's at their current rate, we aren't reliant on Russian gas but Europe are so the embargo on Russia due to the war pushed the wholesale cost up as demand increased, that's not Shells fault.

It can't take the excess profit it makes and just decide to give that to our Government out of the goodness of its heart as its not their money to give, it belongs to the shareholders. The Goverment can stop that money ending up in shareholders pockets by imposing windfall taxes and fair price caps, which is what people are screaming at them to do.

All true, the execs hands are tied slightly as whatever they do the shareholders will sue at the drop of a hat.

Which means the gov won’t do a thing as i can guarantee you they all have shares in most the energy firms, or their chums do.

      Everything is rotten.

My gas and electricity bills for the last 3 months are to be paid tomorrow - 38267.87 DKK. That's 4503 GBP. It's not even winter yet... :/

Are you running a cannabis farm or a bitcoin mining hub, how on earth do you spend that amount of money?! And more important, how on earth are you paying it?

Well fortunately, I have some inheritance money left over (my mum died in 2021) but this is not how I saw it being used up...

Year but how are you using that much energy? Have you got multiple manufacturing plants in the basement?

My workplace has announced they're temporarily closing one of the other offices and moving the staff here for a few months to save money on energy.

They also sent round some correspondence about helping to save money in the office which included "be prepared to wear an extra layer" so that's a bit of fun for me now (shop steward).

If they weren’t fore sighted enough to see this coming (which it was) and are on a variable tariff then be prepared for a lot more cutbacks and even more layers.

Risks of blackouts in the winter.

If their posing the question now, then thats their plan and its going to happen. What the F has happened to this country, i just can’t get my head around how utterly everything is falling apart.

And when they do it, they realise they rake in more cash and it'll NEVER go back to normal.

Ill be telling my grandkids that we used to have electricity 24h a day! They'll never believe it.

Welcome to: "Back to the 1970s" folks. A lovingly reworked production in UHD for the current generation.

Hottest summer on record, tick. Ineffectual government, tick, massive national debt, tick. Fuel prices skyrocketing, tick, strikes over pay, tick, threats of winter blackouts, tick. Constant worry the Cold War might escalate and end in nuclear holocaust, tick. About the only thing missing is the IRA bombing mainland Britain every three months so cheer up, it's really not that bad.

If its successful they're already working on its sequel: "Back to the 1980s" featuring the joys of mass unemployment, any heavy industry actually left finally disappearing forever and near civil war. Can't wait for that.

Question is will the soundtrack to either production be as good as the originals? I doubt it.
