Question is if true: where are the funds coming from?

My hope is the Benny money and the 'funds' Hodgson was promised.

Still plenty left over from the profit of last seasons sales (about £15m) plus the money from Benayoun.

I don't think much/any 'new' money is going to be put in to any transfers.

        Sorry for the self-quote.

Anyway, he was left out of todays squad (game now off because of the weather) and a fee has officially been agreed with Fiorentina.

First competitive game for us is twelve days away and we no longer have a single left-footed full back at the club. ****ing insanity.

They must be very confident of getting Figueroa or someone much better than Insua, he was a decent youngster.

Ah well. He definitely was the weak link of the defense last year, but he was so young that he would have almost certainly improved with the experience. Tough times ahead.

Also looks like Jovanovic will be joined by Remy to bolster the striking options according to the press. That would surely leave N'gog and players like Pacheco and Dalla Valle out of the frame.

I'm becoming more concerned as we get closer to the new season.

Will need to sign at least two experienced left-backs before the start of the season imo.

The most senior player at the club whose main position is left-back is now Jack Robinson, at 16.

Glad we got rid of Insua, he was bloody useless. Slow, cumbersome and prone to errors and overweight.
Can't believe some people on another forum are saying he was a good player..

He was a little leaden-footed on the turn sometimes, mainly because he often took up bad starting positions giving himself a lot of work to do.

I think he also suffered from being thrown in at 20 years old and being asked to play 42 games in a season.

There was certainly potential there though, 6 assists is the highest from any full-back in the league.

I'd rather have an experienced player as first choice, but as a back-up that the team could develop he seemed ideal really.

I didn't rate him either. Couldn't defend, was too short, too slow (you can forgive the lack of height if he was quick) and really couldn't cross to save his life. The stats may say 6 assists but if you watch all the goals fron last season you'll see there were a few deflected crosses in there that sugar coat it a little.

With that said, I'm puzzled as to why we've sold him when we have no one else!

He's half an inch shorter than Glen Johnson.

He was too short when he joined...but he was 17. Grown a good 3 inches since then.

We don't really have a left back anymore now though lol

I wasn't aware he'd grown that much. Even so, pace is more important for a full back and, unlike Johnson, he's really lacking in that area. In that respect he'll probably do better in Italy.

Not to worry anyway, I'm sure our director of football with his background in private equity, has got a couple of world class left backs lined up...

Seriously guys, you don't believe we don't have a replacement lined up, either in transfer or someone academy related? (apologies for the double negative).

As much as certain fans seem to have it in for Purslow et al, I'm sure we did'nt sell Insua purely because of the cash situtaion. Selling Mash would bring in far and away more money than the sale of Insua.

I'm sure we will do fine without him.

Well our season kicks off in 10 days time, so we wont have to wait long to find out.
