Any Liverpool fan saying that the current squad is good enough is just kidding themselves. The whole defence is woeful. Johnson is a clown of a right-back. As a spurs fan I would probably only have 2 of the Liverpool players in the spurs squad - Torres and Reina. And even Torres is a bit hit and miss these days.
I can't believe anybody wants Dalglish back either - remember his glorious spell at Newcastle???

I think we can fairly safely assume they are in fact slightly better than that and Roy is probably not making the best use of them at the moment. It is frankly staggering people are even suggesting otherwise in sensible discussion.

However, it's hard to imagine him doing worse than we are now.

Sounds like a case of other team supporters seeing the perfect opportunity to kick us while we are down.
Go for it.
I hope we can turn this around. I don't know who to get in as manager. I won't blame our star players dor wanting to leave. I don't know what we can do at the moment except we start getting wins as soon as possible with some rich guy coming to buy us and Nani.

None of those things really have anything to do with the teams position in the bottom 3 though, Stoppy2000.
One could certainly argue they have something to do with the side not being good enough to win the Premier League or even finish 4th, but of course, nobody is arguing that they are good enough - because the time when that kind of talk was even remotely relevant has been and gone.
Some people would say the squad left behind at the end of Rafa's reign was quite good, others would say it was average, some might even say it was poor.
However, there is no way in a million years, that anyone with even a small amount of football knowledge could credibly suggest the current squad performing at anything near its best is bad enough to be in the bottom 3. It is absurd.

Originally posted by Stoppy2000 View PostI will, I know loads of Liverpool fans and its been a long time since I could foresee a brighter future for spurs. I think Rafa should shoulder more of the blame than Roy though. He did after all sign Aquilani (worst premier league signing ever?) and annoyed Alonso by trying to get Barry in (then failing with that). Plus he failed to keep a succession of decent/good strikers whilst relying too heavily on Torres & Gerrard.
He brought in Torres, Alonso, Reina, Mascherano & Agger. Yes, he annoyed Xabi by trying to sell him 2 years ago but everybody seems to forget he had a rotten season that year. Juve wouldnt even pay £14m for him so he stayed and had his best season ever but nobody has a crystal ball to have seen that coming.
It infuriates me when people slag off Aquilani. The guy was injured for months but when he was fit near the end of the season and did play you could see his quality. He played the last few games for us last season and was really impressive and ended up with something like 5 assists to his name. I was looking forward to seeing him this season but Roy shipped him out???
Roy had all summer to get a left back and the best he can do is Konchesky? Not good enough. Poulsen is **** and has been since he left Seville.
Roy, for some unknown reason, won't play Agger at centre back. He's our best defender, best in the air and best with the ball but Skrtel keeps getting picked. Why?
Roy's got us playing really **** football too. We're deep and we're flat, teams like Sunderland would never have more possession at Anfield under Rafa. People can moan about Torres as much as they want but he's barely getting the ball to actually do things with - and of course when he does get it he tries too hard to make things happen.
I don't mean to be too hard on Roy, he's had no money to work with (only Villa spent less than us in the summer and that's mostly thanks to Milner's sale) but I just don't think he's suited to us. If we don't beat Everton next then he's got to go.Last edited by mr_sockochris; 05-10-2010, 01:43.

If the rumours about Carragher & Gerrard being instrumental in Rafa's demise are true I hope they are sleeping soundly at night, be careful what you wish for.
The current league position just cements what a good job Rafa had been doing for the last three seasons when he was unable to add real quality to the squad due to the owners not releasing any cash.

Roy?s Mistakes?
? Calling the players who lost in the Carling Cup the ?B team?, and blaming it all on them.
? Not defending Torres, saying Alex Ferguson has a right to his opinion; that opinion being that Torres is a cheat.
? Criticising the fan protests. (He?s backtracked on these last two points, but the damage was done.)
? Picking a (virtually) full-strength team away in the Europa League, and expecting Torres? muscles to be 100% three days later. I thought he was going to use the ?B? team in the early stages, as he did at Fulham?
? Not buying a striker; I know Rafa struggled to find one at the right price, but it was the clear priority of the summer. Aquilani was bought to replace Alonso, and was now fit; and so, instead of going for Meireles and then not using him properly, why not keep Aquilani and buy a striker?
? Leaving it to the 80-minute mark in several games to make the first change, when a result was needed. (One of the TTT subscribers sits behind the manager?s dugout, and said he?d never seen a Liverpool manager so passive during a match.)
? And do we really want to see Kyrgiakos as a centre-forward late in games against Northampton and Blackpool? Admittedly it nearly worked, but if we have to resort to desperate long-balls rather than try and play through lesser teams at Anfield, it?s a sign of grave concern.
? Alienating Agger. Potentially a world-class centre-back. But doesn?t fit Roy?s style, which involves not taking chances with footballers in defence. One of the best players at the club, but not utilised.
? Loaning out Insua and Aquilani, without sufficient replacements. (Might not all be Roy?s fault, this one, with Insua apparently offered to clubs by the Reds? hierarchy.)
? Paying ?5m for mediocre players who are near the end of their careers (Konchesky, and the frankly risible Poulsen). Paying ?11m for Meireles ? a very good player ? and using him as a wide midfielder (albeit one forced to play horribly narrow). Saying Rafael Van Der Vaart doesn?t fit the profile of the kind of player he was interested in.

Hodgson must go quite frankly I would rather be managerless than have him. The bloke seems devoid of passion and clearly didnt understand Liverpool at all prior to taking over.
I think he just saw a (so called) big club come in for him and fancied getting one last name on his CV prior to retirement. He currently looks like the failed Blackburn manager of a few years ago.
We will lose to Everton in the next game I am sure of it and I would imagine his position will be untenable.
