The odd thing is, the chap on the commentary seems to have noted one of the main problems is the team dropping off people and defending on the 18-yard line...but for some inscrutable reason, he isn't connecting that to the way the team is being set up by the manager.

Gerrard has scored. This is a woeful season. All the **** takeover/done.
Does anyone know where to start? I do think that Hodgson has to go now, and that would be a start.
Got to get some balance, somehow push on, end all the negatives to start next season off. I'm writing this season off. My friend thinks we'll..Liverpool will make champions league...

Torres looks like he wants out asap and Gerrard looks like he may be past it now. I know Liverpool fans love Rafa but he truly did leave the squad unbalanced.
Nobody is suggesting the team should be challenging for the league or even the top 4/5.
The current problem is the team is performing significantly below the level of even an average, unbalanced squad.
Only 4 points clear of relegation with over half the season gone - the squad is nowhere near that bad, not in a million years - I think it is impossible to credibly argue otherwise.

3 wins in a row and it is challenging for Europa league. That is the nature of it this season.

Nobody can suggest the likes of Blackpool, Blackburn, Stoke etc. are as good on paper as the current Liverpool squad.

There is a big danger, following such a string of atrocious performances, to the club if they do not act on the current predicament.
There is no use supporting a manager who has no future at the club, even if its just to get through the season. If he is not backed in January, he has asked to be backed, then he is a lame duck and the mood in the camp will nosedive to an even lower level than it is now.
The owners need to sort out the situation now. Either say Hodgson is the man for them or remove him now and end this horrific period of the club's history.

But the team didnt have out and out wingers when they were in the Champions League most years in recent times. Its all about systems, now if you think out and out wingers is whats required then fair enough. However, from the evidence of the last 4 or 5 years wingers aren't essential, they are part of a system we're all used to having grown up with football like that.
It'll be interesting to see who they bring it, that'll give a great indication of how the owners see the club progressing. I have no idea who they should get, Coyle has been touted and he could be interesting, I suppose.
Ralf Rangnick is available and held with high regard in Germany, hes been linked in the media too.
