A lot of the players who leave Holland and fail to flourish are Dutch.

Hopefully, the fact Suarez came from Uruguay means he can adapt to a different style of football much better than some of the players you've mentioned.

I only hope he is superb, that amount of money is scary to waste.

Don't disagree with the first sentence, but that still doesn't change the fact that a lot of prolific strikers in the Eredivisie haven't cut it in better leagues - our very own Dirk Kuyt arguably being one of them, despite his other enduring qualities. Like you, I hope he works out - we simply can't afford a real "expensive failure", to quote one of the self-professed "most respected managers in the game".

I still maintain that £23m could/should have been better spent on more pressing areas of the team and squad (Left-Back, Defensive Midfielder, Central Midfielder, Striker, Winger, etc.). That said, I'm happy to wait until the Summer to see what is done in that respect.

Alvez came from there and had scored a million and he was pap.

Suarez impressed in the world cup which is a better barometer I feel.

Get aquilani back and we could have some real quality up top already available to us. Clever progressive players.

Not trying to be funny/pessimistic, but the World Cup isn't actually a great barometer at all - El-Hadji Diouf & Salif Diao impressed at Japan/Korea 2002, after all.

Not saying that Suarez couldn't impress. Just hoping that he isn't a flop, is all. Needs to hit the ground running for that kind of money - nothing else will do.

I too would like to see Aquilani come back. I would be very surprised if the player himself would actually want to return from Juventus where he's currently doing really well, and who could blame him after being shunted out by Woy?

              Transfer request rejected.

Aquilani will not be going back to Liverpool. He has a deal on the table, Juventus will use their right to buy him in the summer. That is almost certain according to what I've read about his form at the club.

Nice to see a player who stated his desire to stay at the club a few months ago now handing in a written transfer request. It'd be good if a bidding war ensues and Liverpool manage to eek out every last penny from his value.

                  (*sighs and shakes head*)

Sums up eveything wrong with the modern "professional" Footballer.

Nice to hear the Club sticking to their guns with Fernando, even though his departure seems inevitable now.

NOTHING less than £50m straight cash should be deemed acceptable - if we can get more, so much the better.

I think about 35 million will be the price. No way is he worth 50m on current form. Though if man city get involved then who knows.

£35m? Then FSG reject Fernando's request and hold him to his current contract - simples.

Form temporary, Class permanent. 65 PL goals in 102 PL apps is absolutely exceptional for a guy who doesn't take FKs or PKs. He is still under a considerable contract to the Club. I'm sorry, but he is totally worth £50m all day and every day in a league where Darren Bent and Edin Dzeko are worth £24m and £27m respectively.

There are a mere handful of strikers about as good as Torres, whatever his current form is like. Liverpool should pump Chelsea for every possible penny.

heh, we picked Suarez up in Montevideo, for like 1 million. Thats just been over 4 years ago.

But I don't think Suarez will fail. His work rate and winning mentality are through the roof, and he's always in for a surprise. If even a crappy football player like Dirk Kuyt isn't considered a failure, then Suarez will shine. Due to his mentality I can't see him fail that easily.

Suarez is in a different league than Huntelaar, Alves, Kezman. Although Huntelaar certainly does well in Germany, and had a good averages during his Real Madrid spell too. And even with Milan, considering the minutes he got. Alves and Kezman were crap players to begin with, Kezman never scored in European matches and Alves never scored against the better rated teams.

Take your argument about Alves & Kezman, but can't agree with you at all about Huntelaar. Hugely disappointing during his spells at Milan and Madrid. Too early to say how it might turn out for him in Germany, though.

Torres handed in a Transfer Request last night which was rejected. He gotta go. Cash in.

Absolutely gutted that he's likely to go, and even more so to a rival team but if a player wants to go let them go. I'd rather, and I assume most would also rather have players at their club who want to be there than not.

No doubt if he does go to that small west London team I hope Spurs and Man City get 3rd and 4th. Of course, if we can't.
