I reckon likely. It was reported by Liverpool that he wouldn't be risked for the Fiorentina game.

I see. He wouldn't half come in handy in the midfield battle up against the likes of Essien and Ballack.

From what yous have seen of Mascherano at the games, has there been a change in his body language due to all the speculation in the summer about a move to Barca?

No and any player would be silly to, surely? That behaviour would end in being dropped. Wouldn't get a chance to show their desire and show off a good performance in order to make national teams or show off to other teams.

        He's been playing well.

          Ah ok. Cool.

Masch has not been playing well imho. First few games, he looked tired, think he looks mentally drained too. I don't doubt that he will have the desire if called upon at the Bridge but he looks significantly weaker without Xabi to do the ball work and the solidity imho. Masch has tried expanding his passing and does try swinging the ball out wide every so often but, bless his cotton socks, he does look a little laboured doing it. Lucas has been a little more expansive in recent games and they could be a good pairing. Not sure Aquilani will give mch discipline to the midfield and will take him a while to rafatise his game meaning masch has to sit, which, contrary to popular opinion, he does not do naturally.

Kongster, weren't Nani and Anderson about £15-18m EACH? Comparing to a free (Voronin) and a £6m Brazilian int'l, I don't think we are too bad. Not sure this is good but our back up strikers cost £1.5m combined - that is just David N'Gog! Need strengthening.

Well they weren't exactly cheap (15m - £20m for Anderson and £12-17m for Nani) but as they are young, they could maybe represent value for money in the long run. Possibly. Considering we're competing in very different markets, I don't think you guys are doing too bad at all (although Team Andromeda may disagree there). I was just having a bit of banter with hoolak about Lucas and Voronin, there's no need to take it too seriously.

You could play Babel or Kuyt upfront, no?

Sloppy football from Liverpool. Sloppy in posession. Giving the ball away too easily. Paid for the mistakes. Just when will Benayoun finish one of his runs with a shot?

There wasn't much in the game between the two sides. But it seemed like Chelsea wanted it more.

For me Benitez has to go. Why does he stick with pointless players like Lucas and never start Benayoun? Also the constant signing of average spaniard and calling Reina the best keeper in the league sealed it for me.
Liverpool seem to be firmly back to negative football again, the same as under Houllier. I would love to see Gerrard pick up a league winners medal sometime but under Benitez it will simply never happen.

Reina is the best keeper in the league though, him or Van Der Sar imo.

Top scorers last season. Banging in the goals again this season.
Problems exist at the moment but negative football is not one of them. Idividual mistakes are the real issue at the moment, Carra and Mash both making bad ones yesterday.

                          And Reina is boss.

Reina is poor, he does not command his box at all and Torres and Gerrard drag liverpool through so many matches. If I was a liverpool fan I wouldnt back this manager like so many seem to. I applaud the fans but surely a club this big deserves more than constant second or third best.

Sorry to draw on stats again, but they don't lie. He's also arguably the best shot stopper in the world and definately on the shortlist.

I'm happy with Benitez, overjoyed in fact, only time will tell. We just need a little more depth. Only thing i don't like is his refusal to try anything other than zonal marking considering the amount of goals we concede from set pieces. If only to save me from listening to Andy Grey telling me he told us so everytime a corner or free kick goes in

Don't agree on this "negative football" comment. We're a very attacking team nowadays. If we're not, it's because we are being nullified by our opponents. See Fiorentina game.

Really don't see why Reina is getting flak either lol.
