What do you lot make of Babel?

    Comment

Not seen much of him really.
Looks very fast and direct but a bit rough around the edges. Best played on the left of a dutch style front three?

IMO, A superior player to Luis Garcia. Doesn't score spectacular goals like Luis, but far, far more consistent and does the basic things right - those two things being what separates a good flair player from a great flair player.

Signing Ricardo Quaresma from Porto would really be the icing on the cake, but that now looks unlikely.
Benayoun is a great signing, he is so good on the ball going forwards great skill also a great passer of the ball.

As for Babel he again would be an awesome signing he and Royston Drenthe were both fantastic in the U21 Championship.

You guys are looking really good for a potential title challenge next season, and you got rid of that bloody dwarf Bellamy which is the biggest plus.

I've been hearing an awful lot of people saying Babel is about as fast as a horse with no legs.

As a winger does he play left, right? There seems to be no certain position for the guy. I also heard Ajax say he can play as a striker aswell, well what chance does he have to get a game with us then?

Afaik, he's right footed but plays mainly on the left either as a winger or a wide forward.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iq1VqDROOY - Not seen a great deal of him, but he looks reasonably quick there to me.

What chance does he have for a game at Liverpool? Well there is no way in a million years Kewell will go a whole season without breaking/tearing something, so he'll get a few games on the left wing I'd think.

I'm surprised Kewell is staying. Down to the fact that the manager must be pissed off with him, but saying that, Kewell owes us big time.

Babel will be quality - he doesn't stick on the wing but floats inside (a bit like Henry in that regard). He can play on either wing or just off the main striker, and as long as he can handle the pace of the premiership he gives us a lot of options in attack. And he can do 100m in 10/11 seconds - so not too shabby in the speed department either.

Benayoun - a flair player with a better work ethic than Garcia, he can and will track back and put tackles in (even if he isn't that good at them). Good at crossing and putting in those cheeky little through balls that Torres should lap up like a purring cat. Not sure that he will be a regular starter in midfield, but he is a more than capable squad player and gives us that something extra we were so desperately missing at the end of last season (not least in the CL final).

It is looking rosey. Hicks has been quoted saying there's at least one more signing also. Heinze? :P

Frustrated maybe, but pissed off? Not Kewell's fault he's had terrible injuries that have required multiple operations to correct. The fact that as soon as Kewell even nears fitness Rafa always chucks him straight back in the squad/team shows that he rates him.

Not having that, I was at pretty much every game he played for Liverpool and Garcia's workrate was never less than fantastic - a terrible defender, but not through lack of effort.

Cant beleive Heinze would leave OT and go down the road to you lot it just dosent make sense, and i cant see what he would be getting out of it by leaving us and going to you lot cant be money maybe first team oppertunities is all i can think of and even thats clutching at straws.

I don't understand it too well either, but the press keep suggesting it.

Are Liverpool fans happy about signing a player who had his heart set on playing under Monsieur Wenger at Arsenal?

To be fair, Liverpool could do with some decent wingers, so it's a good signing for them.

I think losing Luis Garcia was a bad move. He was missed while he was injured, sure he makes a lot of mistakes with some dodgy passing and occasional poor ball control, but he links the strikers to the midfield well and also had a knack for scoring in big games. He was the man in the Champions League.

Did you speak to the player himself to find this out?
As long as he performs he could have his heart set on playing for Satan's Manc 11 for all I care.

Haha, fair enough. You're right, as long as he does a good job for Liverpool it's irrelevant. I'm just gutted that Arsenal didn't make a move for him because he looks like he has the potential to be the next Henry...

He did publicly say that he wanted to play under Wenger though. I guess Wenger didn't feel he was worth the money. I think Arsenal need to get real with their price evaluation of players, football has changed dramatically when it comes the transfer market. I just know that Babel is gonna score against us!

If one wanted to play under Wenger for any length of time, maybe going to Arsenal wouldn't be such a great idea...
