Settling for penalties, after conceding a 3-0 lead and being down to 10 men is hardly a criminal offence.

Don't think that cost us the game. We weren't going to score twice there whilst not letting in a Germany goal.
Until Walcott can deliver quality crosses or actually get around defenders, he's never going to be the quality player he's being hyped up as. He can run real fast but doesn't have the ability in other areas to take advantage of that.

Yes, Defoe's performance is very encouraging. Nice of Teddy Sheringham to award the Spurs, ex-Portsmouth, ex-West Ham player man of the match too.
Carlton Cole's performance was what really impressed me, some of his ball control was outstanding.Last edited by fallenangle; 12-08-2009, 20:38.

So the big talking point of the night, then: just why is Carlton Cole so wet?

England deserved the win there. They made 2 errors, but I would blame that on the fact they haven't really played that much games yet. Those are quite rare on these levels. Our competition is already 2 rounds underway.
We had no answer on a strong player like Carlton Cole and a quick guy like Defoe around him. Basically, if you lay the pressure on Holland... you have a big chance to win as our defense is less than stellar (slow guys like Ooijer, and small guys like Mathijsen). But not alot of teams do that.
Babel can only run, Schaars sucked, Huntelaar and Sneijder.. well.. not good. Robben is still egocentric (should've given to Dirk to seal the win)... De Jong and Kuijt are strong, Braafheid did a good job too. Rafael and Van Persie probably also.Last edited by saturn-gamer; 13-08-2009, 09:07.

But as a pundit now - not so sure. He makes some good intelligent, insightful comments but on camera he doesn't appear that comfortable. He'll probably improve in time.
Funniest thing yesterday was watching the earlier Norway v. Scotland on the BBC. Who on earth was that Scottish guy in the pair doing the commentary? I just about understood most of what he was saying but the problem was it was mostly crap. Scotland were getting slaughtered and at one point he seemed more concerned about their loss against Macedonia than the drubbing they were getting in front of his eyes.Last edited by fallenangle; 13-08-2009, 11:21.
