I lay some of the blame with Muppet Show. This with they/won't they/who's it gonna be, one chance and that's your lot, Sword of Damocles approach just gives inexperienced players the nerves. A starter should have been established and stuck with.

Have to completely disagree about Taffarel. He was one of the few Brazillian keepers who actually had quality.

He's got 2 WC Final appearances and 1 WC Winner's Medal more than you or I, that's for sure.

Why SWP, btw? I'd choose Young for the squad.

Not sure if that was meant for me but in my preferred starting line up I cited SWP as the ideal universal midfield/attack minded sub. Works well on left or right and can sub Lennon or Joe Cole (my much preferred first 11 left side mid-fielder).

I saw Milner as the other more defensive minded mid-fielder used to sub Gerrard/Lampard if injured or Lennon/J.Cole when Rooney gets sent off. Not a starting line up player to my mind. The manager took the risk, presumably to give him experience/test his fitness, and he failed.
