Almost a day later, and like many I'm just thinking, 'so what?' about the WC finishing. The tournament has been a pig and I'm actually looking forward to the season for once.

There's some crudbucket popinjay giving the full biffer treatment to that diving midget Iniesta on bbc sport, and a host of pretentious arseholes claiming that if you don't like Spain, you know nothing about football. What exactly does this mean? It seems to be used by people who read differing opinions to their own.

I hate the Spanish team. I hate their cheating. I hate their diving. I hate their exaggeration. I hate their card-waving. I hate their tedious style of football, which has won trophies (although they were far better to watch two years ago), but as a form of entertainment is mindnumbing. I hate the lack of decent chances their tight control and perfect first touch brings. I hate watching the endless itsy-bitsy passing that goes nowhere, and only ever gets results when the opposition are forced into making a mistake. I hate the hype of players like Iniesta and Xavi, who aren't fit to lick the boots of truly visionary players like Zidane and Hagi, who could play attractive pinpoint passes into space or onto feet, with deft guile and genuine craft. I hate the lavish hype spunked all over the team by the media, who turn a blind eye to terrible gamesmanship. I hate the sneering disregard for the other, excellent players of the tournament like Forlan and Mueller, who have had far better tournaments than any Spanish ****, just because they don't play for Spain.

If this means that in the eyes of some I know nothing about football, then so be it. But I know what I like, and Spain aren't it.

So I take it you'll love this?

Yeah, well.. I hate Spain too. Although they were less ****e yesterday, and thus deserved to win. Despite their diving.

But just like us, Spain changed. Back in the 90's, we simply played football. It wasn't about fighting and playing dirty, it was about technical mastery. 4-3-3 and not 2 desctruction workers on the midfield. Bergkamp, Zidane.. true football players, masters of the sport. Iniesta? Just a pussy and hardly an idol. Today isn't about football anymore. To take a shot at the world title, you have to adapt. Dirty tactics are key in this apparent flawed sport. Think of Scolari who read from the Art of War, and was incredibly succesful with a bastard Portugal squad, and Brazil in 2002 were evil too.

Flawed sport because people get smarter, faster, harder, better trained, meaner... and FIFA is still going by rules from 60 years ago.

Spain look like passionated footballplayers from the outset, but are really just girlie divers to me. They used the same dirty tricks we used. Difference was that we actually kicked them in the face and they kept it with girlie theatrics. I think I hate theatrics more, because its fake. That the BBC, from the country that basically founded physical play, is completely in love with this girlie play does kind of baffle me. Maybe because its different and fresh to them.

In a sense, Germany played the lost football from the 90's.

As a kung fu fan, I have to say yes. As a Spain cusser, I have to say yes. It was ... erm ... refreshing (?) to see a Spanish player lying on the deck in agony for a genuine reason for once. As a football fan, I say no. Unacceptable in any game in any era.

For me the world cup was distincly average. The most annoying thing was the way the bbc seemed to think the whole event was just comic relief but with football games. I did not need to see footage of poor Africans at every halftime. And they were pandering to them so much. I dont remember us blabbing on about how ace Germany was in 2006. Stupid bbc. And indeed ITV (though at least they just ruined it by showing loads of adverts).

It's been a great thread to take part in, had some good times - was even better than the football for most of it.

Agree with all the negative comments about the Spanish, think I was one of the first to start moaning about Iniesta's diving & general cheating, hopefully the next one will have better footy though it wouldn't take much would it.

I always thought gesturing for a booking of the opposition was a bookable offence in itself until last night. Also, as someone has already pointed out, I thought retaliation was an instant red.

I also agree about the passing tedium, I almost felt like chanting "Boring, boring Arsenal!" to the TV at one point. How is their style of play any different to general timewasting? It's like watching a Rogue/Mage/Priest team on WoW, and from the look of things just as infuriating to play against.

Definitely the worst world cup i have seen. Lets hope Brazil 2014 is a huge improvement.

The only problem with Brazil 2014 is that it's pretty obvious who's going to win.

heh, yeah. I had talks about that today. I said 'here's my salary on Brazil'. I mean, them losing on home soil... anyone seriously considering that? That would probably trigger some sort of genocide.

But how ace it would be to humiliate them in a packed Maracana...

Major to all of you trying to insinuate that Holland should've won yesterday. Apart from Robben's two chances, they were utter gash. How they weren't down to nine men before the 90 mins, I don't know.

That said, Spain weren't much better or any more sporting, admittedly. But they were the better team on the night, imho. And's let face it...they've been the best side in World Football for the last two years, surely?

Overall, this World Cup has been "meh" for the most part.
