I just did one of the 'One Lap Magic' missions, (mission 25). You get a monster car and you race against cars from the same manufacturer. It's a staggered start and you start last. I was waiting 36 seconds or so before starting, then I steamed off, chasing them all down right up to the finish line. Super cool!

Hmmmm, next one's not so good. 90 second wait at the start, and i was 4.6 seconds off.

But like I say, the menus don't run in progressive so you could see them. Plus, with the PS2 being set to YrBrGr in the system menu, it doesn't output a 'correct' signal through a normal RGB cable, so I'd be stuck if I ever did move it >_< I guess it makes sense though, ta for that. What other games have progressive options? (sorry, OT)

Oh why isn't it as smart as the Xbox

Been playing for a week now and this has to be the best GT sequel yet. The menu make over, the photomode all make it seem exciting and new again unlike GT2 and A-spec. I am having great fun just driving the stock cars whereas on the other two games working up to racing cars was a chore.

I'm really starting to look forward to this, despite being lukewarm about GT3.
As mentioned above it seems narrower. There are a hell of a lot more bumps in changes in road camber than was in PGR2. I remember PGR2 seeming very flat.

All in all is almost giving me that feeling I had when I played GT for the first time, and I would class that as the greatest game for the playstation era

PGR 2 seemed very uppy-downy, but other than flinging it on two wheels round the banked turn I don't remember it being bumpy.

This sounds wonderful; if I could read any Japanese (and wasn't broke), I'd consider importing...

Honestly, you don't need to be able to read japanese. For instance:

There is a series called something like "Compact Car Cup" in english text. There's a bunch of japanese text for the entry requirements, one of the sections is red and says 4000mm. Now, it doesn't take a lot to figure out that you need a car that is less than 4000mm long, you can check the dimensions of cars you own, or ones in the shops before you buy.

The one I've had the biggest problem with was the 500PS series, as it seems your car has to have 500PS or better unmodified. Although you can go on to modify it well past this. Eg. a 200PS car that has been upgraded to 650PS isn't allowed, but a 550PS car upgraded to 1000PS is. I think. Anyway, it didn't take long to figure it out.

I've found this annoying too, i don't mind the idea of the penalty but some of the tracks are really thin and you are going so quick that its almost inevitable that you'll touch the other car, and its incredibly frustrating it if overtakes you, touches you and you get the penalty!

Thanks Razu. There's still the "minor" matter of not being able to afford a Japanese PS2, though...

The time penalty isn't always in effect though, not for low-speed impacts. I've only had it the once, when I (ahem) smashed into that other car I mentioned. Maybe I'm just a better driver

I'm mistaken about my component ramblings too -- I get a green screen out of the system with an RGB lead, so I can at least see the system settings to change it. It's GT4 that doesn't like it. My bad >_<

razu is indeed correct about the language. Granted, there is a fair bit of Kanji floating around but, in his example, it it written in kana so a guide will be of help.

mid, I wouldn't worry about importing it man -- although you weren't anyway -- as it as supposed to be released soon. At least we have raised your expectations somewhat Those extra bumps and stuff are great on the 'ring. You can even see the extra detail in the track.

I really need to get a webcam movie of a leisurely drive around.

I got the special addition from playasia with the dvd post cards and keyring. Looked at the dvd for a few seconds and the making of GT had an English woman speaking over it who I have definetly heard before. Has this been shown on a games show over here or something?

Someone on another forum sent me videos of him in a Merc on the 'Ring and it looks so bloody fast and furious! And very detailed. Can't wait to get a hold of this in March.

Here is a video of a 1-on-1 in citta de aria. Not very long, but it shows the hairyness quite well. Twisty twisty.

Nice! I checked through the replays i have and i've got a silver for the last but one license test. The one where you take the 190-Evo II around the 'Ring Classic German car around Nordschleife. Got a silver too, not bad -- 9:25 something. That makes me faster than Clarkson, right?

I'll see if I can get a little movie over the weekend.

Here's about half of it. A bit of a dodgy picture, webcam quality but you get the gist of it

                                Yummy!
