I'm more of a Lost Planet than a Gears.
I think the latter is somewhat overrated and probably wouldn't be quite so acclaimed if not for the visuals. Story is drab (as is LP's) and the environment is generally depressing but for all the wrong reasons - I would much prefer an all white game to an all black one especially given as my LCD really doesn't like blacks (NOT a racist comment before we have any smart asses speaking up).
In terms of online outside of the story, LP certainly takes the crown. The maps are huge and quite well varied plus the Mechs and grappling hooks make for an incredibly fun and different experience with each game. That and the fact that I'd happily take a large scale battle to a several player snooze any day of the week. My only problem with the game is that there's a distinct lack of people playing it. Tear yourselves away from GoW's online and you'll find a vastly superior experience in every possible way.
