the ****ing spammers online are gonna give me an ulcer! even though it does work well online, you can see why sega made those statements bout online play ruining the split second timing needed for VF.

Just the slightest bit of lag and your whole game plan goes straight out the window.Sometimes it's like you can't do anything against a spammer, yet offline i would crush them

Couldn't agree more. The worst so far for me have been the Lei Fei spammers. A split-second of lag can make you totally defenceless against their spammy combos. Really pisses me off.

Ive given myself a really bad head tonight with it. Im not susposed to concentrate too much on things and take regular breaks when I try to learn stuff I or I can have a fit (harks back to when I was in a coma) and unfortuntetly I didnt look at the time today when I put it on for first time and next thing I know nearly 4hours had gone past.

I spent ages "looking" for a character to choose. Akira is just way too hard for me I do like him but his moves for me as a newbie (even though Ive played VF4evo loads with Jacky Ive forgotten everything). For some reason Ive clicked with El Blaze and I wouldnt go near him on PS3. Spent yonks learning some of his moves but its the same I would say to everyone its going to take you months to learn this (Im stuck with one of his moves luckily I can do the rest).

I do remember so tips Id wrote down (good job) if you do a left to diagonal right move in a motion (look on your numpad you want to go from 4 all the way around to 3) instead of left (4) to 3 (diagonal right) it does the same move.

Also 3,3 (tap right diagonal down twice) hard move is better 3,2,3 in a motion.
For 7,8,9 moves (top left to top right) with punch or kick hold guard down as well (ie 7+P would be 7+p+g) as if you hold guard down the game forgets to treat it as a jump move

2/8 centre THEN P+K+G is offensive move followed by P/K for attack (depends on character)

2/8 is defensive move (its timing if you get it right lovely if not smack time) followed with P+K for attacks

P+K+G is knockdown recovery if your not quick just mash punch and guard to get up quicker

Watch your stance placement if you have the back to your opponent (ie your back facing to foreground) your open to crumples to right stance either crouch attack or crouch dash (crouch attack is 3,3 ie easier way 3,2,3)

P+G is your friend when getting thrown use it to counter. Learn opponents moves for throws as you input the last move for throws being down ie if your being thrown with a 4-6 throw you would input 6+P+G to counter it as 6 is the last movement input.

I managed to do arcade on first go but Dural ate me at the end, rest of em was easy :P

VF5 may be the bees knees to those of us who have been playing VF since the Saturn days, but I do wonder how the 'newer' crowd are finding their first dip into a proper ( ) fighter!
Well you don?t get a bigger fighter n00b then me, past experience includes brief button bashing on various games and a little bit of thought put into Chun Li on Street Fighter II back in the day. I got the 360 version of VF5 last week, along with the stick, and decided to just get stuck in with Eileen - she instantly won me over with her cheeky monkey style.

After running through the move list in the Dojo I came out with a few moves, with the most pleasing being ?Forward G+P+K K? which sent Eileen into a swoop followed by a bunch of high kicks which would down the opponent allowing you to follow with UP + P so she spins in the air and lands on them. The Dojo list showed most combo strings following on from ?Down, Diagonal, Forward P+K? which I just don?t seem to be able to pull off which is odd. Maybe I need to hold forward for longer - must be a timing issue of some kind??

Anyways, moved out into Quest mode (worked through 50 fights and 3 tournaments/no loses, unlocking stuff and moving to 2nd dan) and really enjoying how addictive it is. Problem is my meth so far has been total offence, I?ve not been guarding and have no idea how to counter - so when I tried the Arcade mode I got schooled in the 6th round.

I kind of get that I can beat a Guard with a Throw, beat a Throw with a Punch/Kick, Guard against a Punch/Kick - but what?s the story with counters? Any tips?

So yeah, I?m liking it a lot at the moment and looking forward to seeing some of the more advance moves Eileen can do as my skills improve. The best thing has to be playing a game with a stick though! Just feels so right?

I've exclusively used Akira and I'm a "noob".

            I'm also **** at fighters.

Surely you just play with you feel good using?

            Comment

Well, I've not tried anybody else out yet (tho I liked the look of the Kung Fu guy with the blind fold) cos I figured they all have different moves and that would confuse me >_<

Another good thing about the game is the way you can try and focus on one part of your characters moves for a while until you get them down. Eileen has some really beefy kicks and finishing off an opponent with a round house and watching it go BOMB, BOMB, BOMB in the replay is a treat. Gonna to try and focus on her 'Throws' cos I want to learn the 'Beat on the chest' and the 'play the head like bongos' moves...basically the cheeky monkey stuffz!1

Its what you like isnt it what it comes down to? I forget you see so not a great one to judge. Im not very good and the 3p 4, 6 p moves so it makes it hard for me with Akira. More I understand it again the better I will get then move onto someone like him. I know thats the reason I must have used Jacky in VF4 evo I could poke with some kicks and just do p/k moves. I went and looked at my black book and USA guidebook last night when I finished messing with Lau (as I started to get used to some more commands and found him more my "style") and oddly enough the pages where moved to his so I must have had the same idea before I benched the PS3 version (I benched it moment I heard REV C was due hehe).

All the characters do have same commands to a certain extent they just have different moves associated with them its when you get more into combos, juggles and bounces that it makes your head hurt (down to weight of character, stance all sorts) as each character is then different due to weight class etc... It just takes alot of practise I intend today to stick to one (I really can see Lei Fei coming back after reading about his combos just now) and just learn bits at a time go off and play abit with those learnt then add abit more.

If it was SF2/Garou MOW it would be a doddle for me but I played em both for years, I know with SF2 I couldnt do a dragon punch for 7 months even though I played with Ryo everyday

Just play with what you like though their really isnt any right or wrong they just have styles you either like or dont, some are very quick P/K combos some are more tech some are balanced both some like grabs more, somer are into counters and grab counters (ie PAI).

For latest JPN ARCADE rankings it goes

S+ = Lei Fei, Kage, Vanessa, Eileen
A = Lau, Shundi, Pai, Wolf, Brad, Akira
B = Goh, Aio, Jeff, Jacky, Blaze
                C= Lion, Sarah

Dont read too much into em as its also due to whats most popular in those tiers (DEC 2007 rankings Ver C)

Out of curiosity, where did you get those rankings from?

                  Comment

From Gaf their the official Arcadia ones for December.

I know from reading Sarah is abit of a beating stick as all the regulars go on about how she seems to get nerfed each version but Im suprised to see Lion down their. Seems the nerf stick on Pai and Shundi hasnt effected either of them and LeiFei has moved up

My favourites are the same as they were in VF2 - Lau, Akira, Pai and Shundi - but I also like Lei Fei and am hoping to become proficient with him too. He has great style and, in the right hands, is incredibly hard to bet.

Here's on for you Lion/ Chibita fans...

                        SBO Final 07'
                        part 1
                        part 2

Chibita pretty much carried the team in the final... and he even gave the other player a 2 round headstart in the deciding match!

Let the battle of the most androgenous male commence!

Hehe Ive just started clicking with the more harder moves already (ie crouch dash) with Lau so spent an hour on Lei Fei. Very suprised and dunno if its the stick whats easier than arcade pro but Ive only got stuck on one of his moves in dojo (the three parter grab) I spent ages on him on VF5 on PS3 and could not do his k+p combo strings. So its starting to click but after using him I can see instantly he is my character, loads of lovely moves and counters so thats it learning him everyday now :P

Fancied a change of pace for my 5th time round of Virtua so have decided to pick up Wolf for a refreshing change.

Beautiful game too, i'm still in awe when i play it

I've not played VF since VF1 and 2 in the cades so picking up VF5 has been a bit of a steep learning curve. Have been playing with El Blaze at a basic level just learning combos through the quest mode etc. Had a few rounds with Jimtendo last night who was a bit tasty with Lion and schooled me a fair few times. I slowly started to learn a few tactics as to how he was playing which has helped my game a lot actually. Making sure to capitalise on downed opponents etc and getting flurry / air combos in as and when. I still get a bit carried away and my heart starts feeling like its going to jump out of my chest though in online battles. Great fun.

Apart from when people keep doing the low charge move with akira and I want to pull their arms off with rage.

This must already been asked, but is this the stick you guys talk about to play VF5, or is there another:

And, i never played with a stick before, is it hard to adapt to the stick coming from the d-pad?
