Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good stuff on offer - I just found the opening to be particularly inspired.

It was the same with 1, I never felt it managed to reach the dizzy heights of the mind blowing opening again and was left wanting more massive boss action.

I jsut hope the finale of 2 doesn't leave me with a similair feeling.

Mardigan8 how do you do spoiler tags - there are 2 things in particular but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else!

I got annoyed last night but only due to my ineptitude at doing what was needed.

Just finished the game (I rationed my play time) and found it to be thoroughly enjoyable.

There were sections I wasn't too happy about such as

running the gauntlet of baddies prior to the last Sister of Fate

but they were all just minor quibbles.

Far, FAR too many instant deaths for my liking. I threw my controller in rage today on one of them, the one with the lift and spiked ceiling. At least three times I made it to the bottom and died because when I pressed R1 to grab the door, Kratos did the little grab animation and missed I was not a happy bunny.

That was one of the sections that I didn't like for exactly the reasons you outlined, MattyD. Whilst I don't suffer from games rage (I've never thrown a controller in my life; I'm inert) I can certainly empathise with your feelings.

LOL, actually I don't do it very often and I feel incredibly guilty when I do it. I think I've only done it five times in my life. I'm tired ya see. Makes me all ratty like a little kid

Just finished this, easily my GOTY so far. There were a few sections that annoyed me due to me being unable to do what was needed at first.

Can't wait for the third game now

                        I'm in the

                        phoenix temple

but I'm not sure I can be bothered to finish it.

Me too Mike. In fact I turned to a guide and felt instantly ashamed.

I didn't go that far but it was a pure fluke that I found what I needed.

Alright, I persevered and completed that part. Glad I did - AWESOME boss battle GET! Not to mention some (more) boobies

It wasn't that the 'puzzles' in that section were difficult for me to work out, just that the trial-and-error needed to work out the solution reeked of bad game design. I think when they come up with this stuff they forget that the players will only have spent a few hours playing the game, rather than the months spent by the testers and designers prior to designing that stage. This is why some games end up too hard whilst others end up with obscure puzzles; in this case perhaps, it's a bit of both.

People aren't able to psychically intuit what the designers intended and need at least some subtle suggestion of what's expected of them. The suggestive camerawork and built-in environmental signposting were one of GoW's strengths but in this sequel they seem to have been forgotten in places.
