I think the AI is pretty much unparalleled in console racers - I just wish the DRIVATAR was still there.

Jebus - You know you can "employ" AI drivers to do the endurance races for you ?
Yeah, but they take from 55% up to 100% of your winnings from the race, as I found when I hired a driver to do my second one...

I know what you mean about the manouvering on the track, but if you are 8 seconds ahead then you have time, and mores to the point, what real world driver wouldn't hit the breaks if he saw a car facing the other way on a bend.

In my opinion the penalty system needs fixing badly, and quickly.

If you skid off the road, that is enough of a penalty on your time without them needing to whack another penalty on top of it! But worse, if an CPU AI car is trying to get round you and clips your rear, causing you to spin out and hit a wall, not only do you get penalised for being off the track, but for crashing too...and I don't think that's right.

      thats exactly my point.

sign of how much i love it though as I can easily forgive it these minor irritants.

i just want to go home and get back onto the F1 Williams inspired mid engined Clio nutter wagon i've been working on. it looks ****e compared to most of the efforts i've seen but i'm taking huge pride in sticking on squares to make it look cool !

The penalty system only affects your lap though, not your total time (or position). I always thought this was a very good system. It gives you a small incentive not to drive like a pleb, but doesn't affect the really important stuff.

I picked this up yesterday and i really cant get into it.

I think its the same reason i dont like Gran Turismo, it just seems really clinical and (dare i say it) dull.

I much prefer my high octane racers, like burnout, and i think i will be trading this in for DIRT come friday.

P.S. i'm not having a go at people who love this game, im just giving my impressions - i just seem to be in the minority.

I don't think it's considered driving as a pleb when a CPU AI car smashed you off the road with the simplest of clips when it's trying to overtake you...

Sorry, I definately didn't mean to imply you were a pleb!

I meant that having the penalty on the lap time gives you an extra incentive to drive well and stay on the track, rather than cutting corners. Of course there will be instances when you are forced off the track due to no fault of your own, but then the penalty is not that hard that it effects the real things that matter.

Dunno if that makes sense. The penalty's there, but it's very small.

The penalty only affects those who are bothered about lap times though, not those who want to win by any means necessary...

It's a great system, you should be driving defensively enough not to get knocked off the track anyhow...

Agreed, I don't care about lap times, but it's a shame I'm only at the top of one of my friends leaderboards because I'm penalised for other drivers hitting me. The point I was trying to make is that if you ARE racing for lap times then isn't skidding off a penalty in itself? Why does there need to be a penalty system? It doesn't affect you online since you can win dirty but still win!

Stop you taking shortcuts, for example at Laguna Seca? Doubt it's going to change, I've just had to adjust my driving a bit, and it doesn't bother me at all now.

Noticed how "strict" Laguna was last night, there is hardly any run-off area, couple of inches off the tarmac and you're onto sand which virtually stops you dead.

Even with the extra drag from the grass, there are a few tracks where cutting the corners is advantageous.

You are only penalised if all four wheels leave the track, in which case I've not come across a single track where the benefit is more than a second at most, and most times it's a negative thing, so I don't really see that as an issue at all!

If we're talking lap times, a second is massive!

Some corners it is to your advantage to cut it and thats why the penalty is there for going off the track. As not all the corners will slow you down drastically when you go right off them, so thats why you've got to be inch perfect with your turns.

I think the penalty system is perfect, never bothered me once and it makes you strive to be a better driver.

I had some uber games last night. I much prefer the slower C and D cars for online races. So much fun.

Suffered from a achievement glitch last night though . I reached level twenty whilst in multiplayer and received the Lotus Carlton (Yay) but no Level 20 achievement (Boo-urns).
