I didn't think that Uncharted ever supported 1080i/p in Europe. I know that Naughty Dog put in 1080i in the US version because of something to do with US HDTVs not always supporting 720p but as we UK consumers have the HD Ready standard in place (minimum 720p) they took it out.

I've never had Uncharted running in 1080i/p no matter how I set up the PS3 / Bravia (which is 1080p native). It looks amazing in 720p anyway.

mackemansj1: is your PS3 setup to run at 720p? Check the video output settings and see if the 720p box is ticked. If not that could be why it is running at 576p.

So does anyone know how to get the resolution back to 1080p? or is it non functional anymore.

You can't over here, it seems the update has altered people's save files due to the trophies so that the game is native to which ever region you are playing it in. People with the Asian bloodless version are now getting blood in the game and people with 1080 support due to haing an import game are now unable to do that as if it is the PAL version.

that hasn't been confirmed but from what people are saying it seems to be true.

It runs at 720p natively and you should always be running it at that resolution to get the best results if your TV supports it.

I will try my PS3 USA model later as I have the original release PAL version and they cut 1080i out of it in Europe so will be intresting to see if its in it. Cant try the JPN machine (as that had no blood and was grey and no 1080i on PAL version still) as my BR lens is bust hence the USA model.

Been absolutely loving replaying this, can't understand why I only played through it once at launch really.

Has there been any news on a sequel yet? I know they hinted with a treasure map a while back that there was another on the way but I've not heard anything about it.

It's surprising how good this game still looks despite all of the newer releases. I think it holds up well even in comparison to MGS and that was close to perfect for me.

Not really sure how true this statement is but if it is true then the next one should be even better graphically.

The PlayStation 3 has churned out some great-looking games, but Naughty Dog co-lead designer Richard Lemarchand says Sony's Edge toolset will unlock the true potential of the Cell processor.

"There?s a set of tools called Edge that were developed on the Naughty Dog premises, actually, by a group of very, very senior games programmer, some from Naughty Dog and some from elsewhere," Lemarchand told ThreeSpeech.

"...That?s why we think we?re probably only using 30 or 40 percent of the power of the PS3 right now, and there?s this great, untapped potential."
Lemarchand called the tools "low-level libraries" and said they are available for free to third-party developers. Naughty Dog is the developer of the sharp-looking Uncharted: Drake's fortune, and is a Sony first-party studio.
Sony Computer Entertainment announced the Edge toolset in early 2007, which was developed in a partnership between WWS Europe Advanced Technology Group, WWS America ICE team and WWS America Tools and Technology group.

"Rather than overarching engine, these teams have chosen to create specialized systems that demonstrate best practices of SPU and RSX utilization," Sony said at the time.

The Cell is made up of a PowerPC core, supplemented by eight SPEs (Synergistic Processing Units).

This architecture has been described by developers as "exotic," and more difficult to develop for than more traditional hardware.

But Edge tools could make the development process considerably easier for developers, according to Lemarchand. "[Third-party developers] are going to be able to use them in their own ways, to get more and more and more out of the PS3 over the years."

Anyway, Uncharted 2? Yes please!!!

Well PAL original release nothings altered on a USA machine when you get the update theirs still 1080i ripped out of it.

Yea I adore this game I played it thru once then tried again on hardest is it crushing (started on the harder level which I adored) but didnt enjoy it as it was more one shot deaths and I couldnt go in for a bit of fistycuffs as much. I got stuck half way thru in 2nd bit of jetski on land and couldnt get anyfurther due to lack of weapons. Decided from now on will just play it on hard and finish it in a couple of sittings as its a gorgeous game and I really dont need another infuriating die alot just to complete it like I did on COD4 hardest setting. Less personal torture more fun

It's looking like what I said before may be true then as it's letting you play the PAL version of the game due to your location.

Has anybody finished this on Crushing yet?

I'm soooooclose to getting my first (and probably last) Platinum Trophy now...



...just got the last couple of skill level Trophies to go and I'm hoping that if I finish it on Crushing that it'll give me the lower levels too rather than me having to finish the game on the lower levels also.

Sometimes I amaze myself with my levels of stupidity!!!

I had about 10 save games for this and I thought that I'd tidy them up before starting my run through on Crushing, I left the first save there but deleted the others...can you guess where I'm going with this?

I went back into the game and there was only the listing to start a new game rather than continue from my other saves. Anyway, after checking that I still had the previous save I had to just start again from the beginning.

All my trophies are saved on my PSN ID but everything that I'd unlocked in-game has now gone. My hopes of working through on Crushing with all my unlocked weapons have gone as I now have the standard weapons and I can't choose Crushing as it's my first play through with this save.

I've run through the first few areas and luckily they seem really simple now as I know where most of the artefacts are and I've been able to take most of the enemies out without firing any weapons. I know I'll really suffer later but at least I had a good laugh at myself when I realised what I'd done!

Just finished it on hard in two sittings at 7half hours (took it nice and slow) will probably do crushing after GOW (as I always have to play em both back to back now).

wow john, that was quick, I went through again recently and found 40/60 artifacts, I saw one glistening in this tower but had no idea to work out how to get it.

I combed *everywhere* for them too and it obviously wasn't hard enough as I still missed 20 , and the 'strange relic',. I'm .. not sure I can be arsed to play it on crushing although I'll do hard for a laugh when I'm bored some time. . no real rush eh?

great game, a couple low points near the end, but still visually stunning too.

For me the low point now on numerous playthrus the bit with the roman numerals (ie find your way out) I just feel it slows it right down for 10-15mins. Even the twist doesnt bother me anymore and actually the killing.

Ive always been able to play the PAL version John m8 I played it on a JPN machine fine same as on the new USA one and Im always signed in with a USA account. I would have expected if all 3 version where on the disc then it would have reverted me to USA and let me have 1080i but all whats happned before is with the JPN machine it cut the crap blood out. The 1080i physically got ripped out of the euro version you could never select it on JPN model either I may have to pick up another copy I think in the future on USA

That roman numerals part I didn't even get, I'm talking about the 'you know whats' later on. The game reeks of RE4, that roman numerals part is practically identical to the part on re4 where you are destroying little blocks to get the cogs moving, mixed in with the earlier waterfall part very earlier on. The only benefit is that it actually controls far better than re4 when it comes to the shoulder viewpoint, moving while aiming, and taking pot shots while running. hah!

I was going to play GOW yesterday did about 20mins on it then went back and started Uncharted on crushing. Ended up doing it in one sitting with toilet breaks in just over 8hours (clock time was 7hours 20mins and that was watching the scenes). The roman numerals bit I managed to do that in 10mins so pretty much got that horrible bit nailed now. I found it suprising playing it as quick as possible (as its only the massive fight scenes that ate the time due to one shot one kills from some of them or having to be in exactly the right place in that fight or getting flanked) how short the twist bit is and I love it now. Noticed more tearing though due to quick moving which made me a bit gippy in places.

It took me about 30mins to get used to crushing. Wheras when I tried it back in January I gave up after 2nd jetski bit I found it quite easy for alot of it. I think part of that was doing back to back playthrus but Ive got so used now to getting the last guy for double ammo. I still cant see me playing on crushing again as for me its like COD4 on veteran I just dont get the enjoyment out of it as much as the next level down and Id rather have a good gun fight and die rather than a total scripted ok aim sniper kill in 5seconds 3 people or your dead over and over for 30mins lol

I love this, Id play it again today but I promised myself a GOW playthru (I always play one after the other) then back to this on crushing after it.

I finished last week.Normal, 10 hours, 42 artifacts. Really took my time with it and enjoyed the game.

My thoughts....

-What a lovely looking game!
-What a great conrol scheme
-What fantastic "Inspiration" from other games
-Brilliant AI
-Fun story
-Great

-The combat sections were fun
-Best animation EVER, so smooth to jump and climb, yet so responsive! AMAZING if you ask me.

You can pick the game up for 15 quid delivered at Play, and I really can't believe I overlooked this.

Looking back, if I had finished it when I bought it, it would have been in my top 3 of 2007.

Really look forward to the next in the series, and also I enjoyed the trophies.

PAL non plat retail version on release had 1080i ripped out over USA and JPN last year

I'm almost 99&#37; sure that the JPN first press is only 720p.

I'm talking about the 'you know whats' later on.

If I'm talking about the same "things" you are, then I can only say that the game went downhill hugely for me at this point.

Due to the above reason I'm almost loathe to play through the game again. If they would update the JPN one for trophies I may be persuaded. It'll sit gathering dust until then methinks.

Still think this is the best game I've played on the PS3. Even better than MGS4. In my world I like to pretend that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull never happened and this is the proper follow up. Nathan Drake being Indy's long lost second cousin, twice removed, or something.
