Well, after all the slagging of controls I was not expecting much but I LIKE it - it is Resi, not GOW or any other over the shoulder shooter - the controls are classic resi controls.

I promise I'll play it a bit more, but my first attempt at playing the demo was really frustrating!
Two buttons to shoot?
Two buttons to reload?
Two buttons to melee?
I felt like I was playing Twister with my fingers!
Is there a quick turn? I died after 2 hits from chainsaw dude because I couldn't even see him.
4 headshots to kill a standard badguy? 4?!
No wonder I run out of ammo so fast, that and only being able to give all of your ammo to the other player.
Maybe they're following Russo's zombie rules as opposed to Romero's!
I've played and loved all the other Resi games so was saddened how unintuitive this was to play, especially compared to Left 4 Dead...

Are you sure? Because that's been the way it controls since the year dot.
There is a quick turn, it's back and some button or other, (X I think, or Square) depending on controller config.Last edited by jimmbob; 02-02-2009, 17:11.

Just played the two levels in the PS3 demo and really struggled with the default camera and controls.
I loved RE4 on the gamecube, one of my favourite ever games but this doesn't feel right.
I felt claustrophobic in the levels, maybe its the design, but I didn't like it.
Moving around is very clunky, as is trying to look around. The controls are way too complicated, Kojima really made a big effort in making the MGS4 controls easier and more intuitive, Capcom seems to have gone backwards with this.
I also kept running out of ammo which is annoying, and it wasn't as if I was shooting the air I was actually hitting the zombies.
Graphically it looks ace, nice gritty look to it ala Killzone 2 and MGS4. They're not enough to warrant a day one purchase though. Think I'll wait for the sales and the impressions of apparently improved control method for the final build.

You know what really gets on my nerves?
The Shanty Town section has quite a lot of grown vegetation that are as big as Chris and that utter female cretin prating about beside him; why - in this day and age - are they a solid block as in not allowing the player to go through them or at least interacting with the plants?
It makes the game even more corridor-like for no good reason.
I managed to kill the chainsaw-guy on my first attempt whilst playing the PS3 demo, which was nice.
Actually, personally speaking, the PS3 demo is 'better' because it looks cleaner and feels smoother; the controls (although still admittedly outdated) feels more natural on the PS3 pad especially using the knife and holstering your weapon.

No need for that, Jimmbob!
In Capcom's decision to stick close to the R4 controls it feels like a step back after playing other games more recently.
This thread's full of people saying they like the old games but are disappointed with the control scheme and the demo in general. Are you going to tell them that maybe they never enjoyed the previous games either?

It's also strange how an ex-special forces operative who can pull off all sorts of upper cuts and the like on the enemies cannot move while using his knife, or walk while aiming his gun.
