      Why'd you all get Gold?
Silver's the same, right? Just without the hat, t-shirt, box, etc?
      Right?
It looked like all the same software to me.

Of course it will sooner or later. But I'm talking about the original.

I've never played it, but I've heard good things (and bad in terms of addiction) about it.

On a side-note, for those who've purchased over Steam if you check your Half-Life 2 pre-loading status, it's changed.

Steam no longer says you've got a locked copy.

        "Pre-loading is complete"

"When the game is officially released you'll be able to play it immediately."

No more Half-Life 2 pre-loads by the looks of things. And by the sounds of that, it seems as though those who've bought off Steam outside of the US should be able to play the game as soon as Valve release it on Steam. Which you'd think would be on the US date.

        No three day/week style waits.

Someone on rllmuk posted that it was $30 for shipping of the gold version extra stuff. Is this true? can anyone confirm this?

$15 as far as I know. I may be wrong.

I got it for the physical elements, so I could have something 'real' so to speak along with the downloadable stuff. I'm a sucker for collector things like that.

                Another thing to consider...

If Half-Life 2 is completely preloaded onto the machines of those who've purchased it through Steam, then that can only mean one thing.

The game's release candidate must have been accepted for this to happen otherwise it wouldn't have.

I'd expect a gold announcement to come very soon considering the entire game's content has been downloaded.

I hadn't thought of it that way

You're right, as it would cause no ammount of problems and wasted bandwidth on updates / changes otherwise.

Still, it'll make the wait even more unbearable till VU can pull their finger out.

Does it feel odd knowing you have the greatest PC game this year ( and maybe even last year and next year as well ) on your hard drive but can't play it ?

I bet, even as I type, some canny Hax0rs are out there breaking into it.......

It was $15 for the tax and $30 for the shipping. C'est la vie...

Just been playin a bit of cs, just makes me wanna play hl2 more, especially watching the stress test properly. It's good but it's still cs (unsurprisingly), like a strange case of deja-vu!

I haven't played in a year or so and it shows...lol! As for tfc Concept, man I used to play that to death when original hl came out, top fun but again it's still old. If they give it the source treatment will be great.

that put's the gold steam package out of my price range. Looks like I'll be getting either the silver version or the retail collector's edition

Yup. I checked my receipt email. $135 overall, including tax and shipping.

Some games are just worth it though.

Umm... can I purchase HL:Source and all separately? I can't afford it all together now, and I don't think that I can afford to get two copies of HL2... I've spent ?25 on HL2 from gameplay.co.uk, so what does that include, and if it is just HL2, which I am fine with, can I buy all the Source stuff separately after, or do I have to get the gold edition and get HL2 included?

(PS. I can't get steam because I am not on bb)l

Just ordered my silver pack a few hours ago...not fussed with a hat and a tshirt..:P

Spent 2 hours playing CS: Source, which is my primary reason for buying the game..although i am currently preloading the hl2 game at the moment.

Source is very nice, Gfx are top notch..loads of little touch's and its in 5.1 surround as well.
I've been running the game at 1024 x 768 6xAA 8xAF everything on max detail. No slowdown due to hardware, although there was the odd lag issue here and there.

                            Overall very impressed so far.

Got my receipt, so I'm all ready to go. Interesting that it says HL2 is basically ready to go now, but who knows what the hell is going on with that one. Like I said, it would be nice if HL:S became available soon, but I can't remember seeing an update as to what stage they are at with it, but if its in the retail collector's edition then it can't be far off being ready.

As for the extra price involved, I'm not too bothered. Considering how many hours I got out of the original game and its mods, I still think its reasonably priced and I'd rather this went straight to Valve than a publisher.

Yay. I'm going to go with silver myself. Its quite a good deal at $60 I reckon.

                                Splendid.

Though it is utterly ludicrous that we're at this stage with no release date for the main course.
