Sir, I take my hat off to you after our chat. You are indeed the master of Disgaea.

Hmm, now I'm in the mood to whore my body and buy an import PS2 to play Phantom Brave when it comes out.

Damn, it's a fine time for RPGs and SRPGs.

Phantom Brave US ( and JP ) is already out ... I reviewed it for the site. Or you're wanting an import machine for the UK version? It's a little muddled there.

I actually started playing this as a stop-gap until RE4 showed up, but it looks like it'll keep me busy a wee bit longer than that. I haven't got anywhere on the game so far (only up to the first boss "Mid-Boss", 4 hours played), but it's really quite enjoyable. Love the style to it and the number of things to do.

Problem is I'm getting owned atm, my generated characters (a warrior, a cleric and a blue mage) are weak as babies. Any tips?

The first few hours are definitely the hardest, best way to go about things imo is carry on through the story until you're asked to go into item world. then just grab a load of lower level items and plough through them, you'll build your characters up as well as grab specialists which are vital to shove into a good weapon. Then just rinse and repeat, before you know it you'll be hooked in no time.

Cheers man. Should I generate any more characters, or change the class of them? And is the Item World as difficult as the woman who "guards" it suggest?

You only need go through 10 levels in Item World which ought not to be too bad on a low level item. I think the item I used was an amulet which is fairly low level. If you can reach the exit on each level without fighting then it will be even easier. You ought to try to defeat any speciallists however although for a first item this is not crucial as they will re-appear later I think.

What sort of level are your characters at the moment?

Pfft! Well Laharl is level 7, Etna is 3, the Prinnies are 2, and my generated characters are all 1. It is embarrassing, but judging by the amount of time needed to put into it, probably pretty normal.

I really need to get my mage and cleric up to speed, but they die after one attack.

You need some items to give them a boost.

You can do the training scenario as much as you like (that ought to be fairly easy). Attacks with characters in position to do a combo attack will gain experience so your strong character will be directly in from of the enemy. Another good tactic is to hit an enemy with a strong character (to hopefully leave a couple of HP and finish them off with a weaker character - the mage of course can do this from a distance).

Did you get your bonus from the Zombie next to item world (every little helps initially).

Yeah he gave me something.... can't remember what it was now I've claimed a few "prizes" from the hospital as well.

I guess I'll just have to keep going round and round the same bits until I'm sufficeintly buff to kick some arse. Might make a few more characters as well, then try a stage without any main characters just to get them built up a piece.

The first map of the story proper is actually quite useful as you can place a character so that only one enemy can attack it. With a few decent items you can soon gain a level or two there.

Remember to transmigrate when you've gotten to level 10 and have taken 3 promotion exams.

Have you downloaded the free strategy guide? Forget the level walkthroughs, the first section is pretty cool on giving you hints

Absolutely pointless. I know this is a long thread, guys, but it already covers absolutely everything you could want to know about the game, including the best times to transmigrate. You shouldn't even be bothering going near transmigration until your character's level is in the hundreds.

Hundreds!! roffle... that'll take about six months. I'm new to TRPG's anyway and most of the stuff mentioned in the thread is gobbledygook to me at the minute. I intend to put a few more hours in tonight.... maybe get to level 10 with Laharl eh!! WOOT!!

I never transmigrated below Lvl 1000.

I presume you checked out GameFAQs.

I got the transmigrate hint from this thread...

The transmigrated characters do seem to level up much faster than the un-transmigrated ones...

It was also useful for transmigrating my cleric archer to a proper archer archer.

PS Am I meant to do anything with Flonne? She only seems good for healing and that's not levelling her up any.
