Fired up the demo earlier, played 1 horrible game and then deleted it. Still Feel really dirty and all after

I mean honestly what did they do in all that time? I think everyone's just smoking spliffs and playing Fifa at konami headquarters. Konami are thiefs, Seabass should be sacked long ago!

Don't worry, I won't litter the thread with anymore posts Pes fans!

I am so conflicted, this feels like my biggest gaming decision ever. Had en extensive evening of both games demos.

PES is PES, I can play it, score goals and forgive its shortcomings. FIFA is clearly the better game but I'm crap at it, can't score and feel all fingers and thumbs with the controls.

Head says FIFA, heart says PES. I've been exclusively a PES man since ISS on the 64 but think I'm leaning FIFA. Its big for me this, I've bought my son up a PES & Arsenal man, its like telling him we're going up the Lane this Saturday.

        This.

For me, Pro Evo has never felt like Pro Evo on the 360 or PS3. The movement of the ball and the players have always felt completely different to that of the PS2 and Xbox versions; man, I must've sapped hundreds of hours on each PS2 and Xbox iteration I bought, but every single "next-gen" version has left me feeling so disappointed.

Since next-gen Pro Evo 6, they haven't just felt like bad PES games - they've felt like bad football games. I'm convinced that if any other developer had entered the football scene with these versions of PES, they'd have been getting rubbish reviews.

This demo hasn't rectified things - the ball still has a horribly unnatural movement; almost as if it has some kind of magnet in it that pulls it towards the ground prematurely, and the player movement/animations has always seemed off to me since making the leap from last-gen consoles. This concerned me on Pro Evo 6 on Xbox 360, but I just presumed it was Seabass experiencing teething issues getting to grips with a more powerful console - particularly seeing as the PS2 version of that same game was still great. But it's just carried on down that trend.

Maybe there's no demand for a return to the feel of the PS2 versions. Maybe everyone's happy with how these current gen versions play. Sadly I can't find myself happily adjusting to these new ones which is why I'm out.

I guess the old Pro Evo is truly dead.

          Come on bud just do it. Trust me its the right thing. Come see my collection....Winning Eleven, 97, 98, 4, 5, 6, 6 FE, 7, 7Int, 8, 8LE, 9, 10, J-league WE, J5, J6,J8, J9, J2007, J2008.....

But Fifa 10 for me captures the magic, the clever runs, the neat little passing of all the PS2 W.E titles.
It took me a month since owning my 360 and playing Fifa 09 to become used to the control. I was losing 7-0 to all my mates all the time. Now im losing narrowly and gaining the odd win.

You would be wrong to go to the lane, but right to go to the Fifa.

Brilliant post. The xbox1 versions and ps2 (and even Gamecube) were all ace. Sadly its just not anymore.

Argh this game is weird. Konami are so frustrating!

On the one hand i hate the hunchback players, the often atrocious defending, the stupid clicking noises the game makes every time you skip a replay, the awful presentation, the slightly dodgy animations and the still potentially dodgy keepers...

..and yet i still prefer it over Fifa! Every now and then, you just get that feeling that any goal you might want to score (or might not even have envisaged) is totally possible. One minute im sitting there huffing about the dodgy animation or shocking player selection when defending, but then all of a sudden it clicks for me as I start a passing move forward and feel completely and utterly in control of the counter attack im building, resulting in a shot on goal or some lengthy pressure. And inevitably i cant help but forgive it for all its flaws.

I want to like Fifa, but as soon as i pick up Pro Evo I feel at home. I even bought Fifa 09 last year, but i just found myself scoring the same goals over and over again, and it never truly clicked for me.

Im slightly torn now. Its a combination of Fifa presentation with Pro Evo gameplay i really want. Why cant Konami just totally nail it for once this generation?!

Can someone explain please why Konami insist on only having assisted, semi-assisted or completely unassisted player selection when pressing L1? Its so fooking annoying. The ironly is that Fifa used to do this and now I've found out by playing the recent demo that they have the full 8-10 bars of tweak like PES used to have. And Xabi Alonso is still playing for Liverpool? What a joke.

I think Konami have lost touch with their fans. And theres no way the final game is going to be radically different from the demo. Its never happened before so how could they start doing so now? I really think its a case of what you see is what you're gonna get.

After 5 plays with my brother I've decided it feels like a radically updated WE6:FE, which although was probably Konami at their very best (for the time) now feels like a dramatic step backwards in terms of gameplay. Maybe its like the Prodigys recent album, Invaders Must die . . . . Annoyingly old skool and makes you think they resorted to desperate measures but after painful perseverance you realise what a stroke of genius it has turned out to be . . . . . I'd love to give Konami the chance come release day but Im not prepared to drop £40 on a whim Im afraid.

I'll check out this demo later but from the videos it does seem like old code. I got a 75% review build of PES last year and the difference between it and the final code was striking, almost a different game.

From that experience Ive learned to reserve my final opinion for the release version. I agree there are some things PES always does well, the statisfaction of scoring for instance. That's always going to be there IMO. What's needed now is decent online code because since PES6 it's been pointless and PES6 wasn't perfect either, just serviceable.

In comparison FIFA just kills it online. I really hope Konami realise this and deliver from day one. No waiting months for a patch etc... I love PES and adore playing it offline but Im sick of the online debacle. Because of that alone FIFA is a must buy and this remains a wait and see.

wow, excitement was building for me on this demo and im...

...Dissapointed. Slow, Clunky, Awkward stuttered animation, poor defending, bad presentation etc, etc.

I loved the PES games on PS2 but this was just horrendous. I brought both last year and like most of you I was solely a PES gamer, but having brought both last year, I slowly got more and more into FIFA partly due to my mates having converted. But my frustrations with FIFA 09 were the lack of response when trying quick passing play, with FIFA 10 they sorted this (or at least it felt that way from the demo...) and somehow now PES has inherited the FIFA 09's quick passing issues.

Konami need to scrap everything PES/WE releated they have and simply start again, I've decided just to get FIFA this year... shame, another wasted opportunity I wonder how many opportunities they'll get....

After a long day playing the demo on 360 and PS3 I've found that I like it and hate it lol. I really can't make my mind up. I played some FIFA10 demo in between and while that had a couple of frustrating moments i.e goalie not coming out to get simple unattended ball near six yard box. I found FIFA to be a pleasure to play in terms of build up play. Shooting isn't as satisfying as PES, but everything else in it is beating PES. Ideally I'd like the pitch, lighting and player models of PES2010 then everything else FIFA10 lol Not gonna happen.

Well, at least I'll be getting both PES and FIFA for free this year thanks to a couple of cometitions I won.

I've not given up on PES2010. I will reserve conclusive judgement until I've given the final game a good roasting.

I've got a feeling that this year, I'll be playing more FIFA if the final PES game turns out playing like the demo.

The worst thing for me with the last Pro Evo was when you played on-line and conceeded and all you would see flash up from the opposing player was 'goal' x a thousand times, then 'nice shot x 1000'. Don't know why as I am pretty placid but that used to wind me the **** up.

Mate worst thing about PES since PES6+Patch is it just didnt work online.

I've never had a single game online since that I could say was generally lag-free and what I would deem "playable". In the same timeline FIFA has gone from offering 1 on 1 play up to 10 on 10 and every option inbetween along with saving replays and setting up tournaments.

It just annoys me because there was a time I would take a fully playable 1on1 PES online as being the holy grail. Taking what it does so well offline onto XBL/PSN. To date Konami still hasnt fully achieved that feat and at the same time it seems to have been playing roulette with game-play options.

I'm not hating PES by any means but I am definitely disappointed to the point that I am beginning to think they're never going to get it "right" again with the resources they have to produce the game.

Totally agree. Online for me is like 60-70% of the game.

The only glimmer of hope will be that Konami have already anounced that their online is based on PES6 tech and hopefully the gripes I have are ironed out in full version. I won't hold my breath, but I will check it all out on release.

marmite's point about having a feeling of control of the bigger picture in the game is a good one.

I know in PES that I can have an image in my mind of a break or 1-2 or move and pull it off. In FIFA I don't get that feeling as it all happens so quick (getting old)

FIFA is by far the more realistic, I am still on the fence as to whether its more fun.

To further confuse myself just tried the pc PES, whacked it up to full resolution and it feels a bit different to the console versions.

I refuse to buy both though.

As an aside why do the Liverpool fans sound like the Vladivostock male voice choir in PES ?

Agree with this. WE10 was the ultimate for me, fast, arcadey, fluid, intuitive, natural, and fun. The slowness of PES6 on the 360 was a horror show of slow clunkiness. Every move felt laboured and forced. It was like you were trying to score a goal in the middle of a waltz. No next gen PES has even vaguely come close to WE10 for pure playability as far as I'm concerned.

Good point. I remember stuff like This Is Football having a couple of iterations but never really getting a chance to develop in this two horse race. Recent PES games would surely suffer the same fate if they didn't have PES in the title. They would have been getting 6/10 reviews with comments such as 'some promise, but light years behind the competition in many aspects', and died at point of sale. They have, on the whole, been a pale shadow of former glories, and sullied the name of PES. Seabass should be impaled on his own cock.

I know what you mean. Even though at the moment that PES home is more like a fine house that's rotted into a stinking hovel. It's my hovel and I remember with pride and fondness what it used to be like!
