Tried the demo on the 360. Out of 90 minutes, only the first 5 minutes was enough to tell me this was shovel-ware (a bit like Dantes Inferno). I guess for those that enjoyed this game, it was a well timed release, as an alternative to Bayonetta and soon-to-be GOW, I can't see the point in playing this at all.

Except it's barely anything like Bayonetta/GoW, it's a Zelda rip-off with deeper combat. I don't know the content of the demo so maybe the game hasn't been fairly represented but it isn't another Dante's Inferno carbon copy of a superior product, but something in a genre barely catered for these days. I'm not going to sit here and claim it's the best game ever (a 7/10 would be fair in my opinion), but 'shovelware' it isn't at all.

It's anything but. I'm sorry its not to your tastes but I (and everyone I know who's played it) loved it to bits. It's a wonderful game and I'm over the moon they are making a sequel.
But "shovelware"? Anything but...it's polished and I didn't encounter a single bug in the entire game, which is rare nowadays.

The first time I played the game was today with the demo and I was impressed. It has a gorgeous look and feel to it. Definitely worthy of a purchase.
However, as a demo, it was confusing. It starts with you dumped in an open area and proceeds with some basic instruction like press X to simple attack and Y to heavy attack and then.....it just stops. It took me a while to realise I had to go into the church and then another while to realise that I had to put the sword in the statue. From that point, the Zelda comparison's became obvious and it played really well...so much so that I switched it off as I didn't want to spoil the main game.
However, I'm a pretty positive gamer who will persevere with something. If the developer wants the demo to attract people who may have passed the game by, they did a pretty poor job of getting across the big appeal, especially as they don't have the excuse of an early build.

I picked this a week ago, and I'm loving it. It's like what would result from Kratos ****ing Zelda. I can't play it in long doses (a problem I suffer with ALL combat heavy games), but I'm constantly drawn back to it. I hope its success allows for more of the story to be told. Well done, Vigil.

I'm loving this
I hadn't been overly impressed with the previews and whatnots flying around (looked a bit meh...) but the zelda references finally made me cave and what a surprisingly beautiful thing this is. The first 30minutes of gameplay are horrible, but once the story sets sail a splash of unseen quality seems to appear out from nowhere. The first scene truly does this gem no justice - esp considering how gorgeous, cleverly designed and vast the following areas are.
This really is quality game. It's clear a lot of heart was poured into delivering a fun yet immersive title. The battle system is a joy to play around with (it's a lot of fun using the surrounding terrain to your advantage) and these puzzles are becoming very satisfying indeed. Shovelware? Everyone's entitled to their opinion but sorry, that's just crazy.
Oh, and War is a dude ;-)

Started this today after getting fisted by Mass Effect.
I'm enjoying it mightily. It's nice to have some fast, balls-deep smashing fun after the more sedate pace of Dragon Age and ME.
It's one of those games where I'm enjoying it to such an extent that I hardly look at the achievements, I just want to get on with playing the game. Playing games old style, harking back to pre-360 days. I glanced at the achievements and I seem to have missed the one about a helicopter early on (?), and I didn't (to my surprise) get the 160 kills on the angelic mount one. Brilliantly, I only discovered you could steer the damn thing til near the end of the section.
Liking the visuals too. They're very cartoony in the first section, but once you get going there's all manner of nicely designed areas. Technically they're not outstanding, but they do a pleasing job. The camera is fairly responsive to player control so it's nice to look around.
The controls are pretty easy to learn, offering you new things step-by-step in an assured manner that you can cope with. The moves I've learnt so far are pretty simplistic, though obviously I'll buy more. They have a good weigh to them, whacking and slamming things around is rather splendid.
The sound is great, totally over the top growling, gurgling, deep voices - totally cliched - but in keeping with the ludricrously over the top nature of the story. For some reason it reminded me of Soul Reaver - some of the voices carried the same ye olde stage presence as the god voice in that game. The story sits fine with me, real comic book stuff, and it's holding my interest. The opening sequence felt like a good version of a Michael Bay film.
Nice to see plenty of bits where you have to go back with new skills too. I know some people hate this, but this was the bread and butter of Soul Reaver, still one of my favourite games. Just the audacity of some of the incidental visuals adds to the quality, like seeing an aerial battle going on outside through the smashed brickwork of a building, and the big stompy thing at the start.
