no probs, thanks, will use it tonight or tomorrow probably

I wonder if upgrades travel with the vehicle, probably.

my tactic for winning is buying something and tuning it to double the horsepower of everything else in the race

    cough

I think Polyphony are constantly building premium models to be honest. I mean they'll use these models for the next GT6 so it makes sense that these cars are constantly coming off their PC conveyor belt so it wouldn't hurt them to release them as downloads for GT5, at least a select number of them anyway!

Hadn't thought about that but hopefully it will as the base version got me nothing.

I'm starting to struggle a touch on The Gran Turismo All Stars championship. Doesn't seem to matter which car I use as I can get to second without any real problems but seem to stay the distance behind the car in firs place all the time.

I've tried all the cars I have even going up to my Mazda 787B which has 838BHP/9000rpm but weighs the same as a bag of sugar which means it's essentially air with a rocket attached.

I know there are more powerful cars available but they seem to weigh a lot more. I've got loads of money saved so maybe I'll just chuck a load at the Veyron that I've won to see how that copes.

What car have other people used for this championship?

Which car are people using for the Historic Racing Cup? I have 14 compatible cars but they include cars going back to the 40's which just aren't going to cut it.

        EDIT:

That's what I'm hoping they'll do because I don't see there being much more they can do with the actual models with the next PlayStation.

If they keep adding content to this and maybe five or six years later they're surely going to have a full compliment of Premium models they can use.

Getting to the point where I probably need to grind a bit for money - whats the shortest race with most .. profit margin?

No problem, did it keep all the modifications?

Meant to post this the other day but forgot. It's InsideSimRacing's review of the game, they've been sensible enough to want to review it properly so due to the size of the game they're reviewing it in two.

This is part 1 and it's 50 minutes long, there are some inaccuracies in the review and it does look like they're did this part from an earlier version as some changes are missing but it is one of the better reviews.

There's a good section on different wheels and how well they work with the game.

              EDIT:
A piece of advice for anybody who gets a headache while watching this, the only humane way I've found to drown out the sound of Jessica Lopez' Southern drawl is to really concentrate on her premium boobs.

The MINOLTA-branded '89 Toyota Group C car. Its incredibly fast...almost like playing Wipeout when you drive it on the Nurburgring.

I can't remember how I got it but it was definitely a prize. It weighs 850kg and has 1040Bhp with all upgrades. It might actually be capable of more power than that but I've covered 2000Km in mine and it probably needs a rebuild.

Some people claim a fully-modded Countach is good enough but I think you'd need to be really lucky to win with one of those. I tried it but the '70 Toyota & 2J Chaparral (that thing with the fans on the back) are just way too fast and shoot off into the distance if they make it to the front.

Unless you've got 20m to spend on a Ferrari P4 330 or Ford MkIV, your best bet is to gift yourself one with the "birthday trick". I got a Ford MkIV that way and used that to win and also get the Dream Race trophy in the process.

yep it seemed to keep all the mods.

Man some of the later races are damn hard. I did a 5 race cup in my veyron and was first until the last race and then cocked it up - came 10th. Got a bronze overall. 50mins or so down the drain

edit: where are people getting these millions! bspec mode or something?

i found Turbo Challenge very effective, giving me roughly 35k per race (1st place). so if you are fast you can make 100k every 10 minutes, 600k in the hour and... well you can do the maths on your own i guess

I used the 330 P4 on that Championship, fully modded. It is one of the few with adjustable downforce. One mistake and you lose though. I had no assists for the Deep Forest Race other than ABS and it was white knuckles time!. For Cote d'Azur I put all the assists on and had a much easier time of it.

Best race for money if you are high enough level is the Extreme American Champioship race at Indy. A fully RM'ed ZR-1 '09 can complete it in under 5 minutes for 98K. When I was a bit lower (still in Extreme) I used the European Champioship Rome race for 83K.

I did post a link to the GTP post with the money that races provide and the time to complete it. You may want to check that out.

Got a bad cold so mostly been B spec-ing now that I feel a little more human! Now up to Lv 16. Have admittedly been grinding the Daytona race with the FGT for B-spec.

Will give it a try later, cheers! Not quite sure what I'm going to buy mind.

I made the mistake of having the wrong car selected not long back ( a dodge charger I didn't even need to upgrade ) and spent around 200+ thousand on it.. then realised I was sitting in the wrong car

So far I have managed to avoid upgrading the wrong car... famous last words.

I seem to be down on the money at the moment. I keep buying cars which I suppose is the cause of the problem. I now have about 360 though there are some duplicates there (deliberate mostly).

I think some grinding may be in order. May go for the Extreme European Rome Race as you get more Exp for it (4.7K compared to 4.4K for Indy). It is more restful driving the road course with a decent car! The RM Elise 111R is good for that and can do some indecently fast times!

I now mostly go for removable upgrades so I can revert to stock if the mood takes me. Having a duplicate Gallardo (won one of course) meant I was happy to fully upgrade. And I even bought a second 458 so that I could use a stock one as the other is now fully upgraded after the B-spec Pro Ferrari Race. That was a close one as the Enzo has a similar power/weight ratio. Fortunately the 512BB took the lead and my B-spec driver managed to get in front and hold on.

*Bit of a spoiler coming up* I unlocked the Vettel Red Bull X1 Challenge last night where you have to beat Vettel's times in the Red Bull X1 to win one - it looks and feels very futuristic, it's in a whole other league to even the Formula GT.

The brakes don't seem much of an improvement, but the speed and cornering is just unreal, I finally got the 111m a second, 400 km/h trophy without even trying. The steering is extremely sensitive though, you don't need to worry about spinning at all, but it's easy to turn in too hard and go off the track and earn a disqualification - a steering wheel could well be a must here.

Anyway, I had a go at the first challenge, managed to get round without putting any wheels on the grass and was a whopping 35.5 seconds off the pace after an out lap and one flying lap. I expected to be a fiar bit off the pace, but not by that much, I was still flying round the track because it's just so fast. So I had a few goes on the other 2 tracks and kept getting disqualified since I knew you can't take it easy in the slightest.

So I've given up with that now, I think I'll save up the 20m to buy one, though I have a horrible feeling I won't be able to use it in almost any circumstances because it's so fast (even being very cautious in it you could beat anything else easily, I don't see how a GT-type game could ever top this car for performance without it being just too fast for anyone bar a Jedi or Sith Lord!).

360 cars! I have about 20, I just sell the ones I'm not interested in. I'm never going to drive a hatchback or whatever.

You do get an X1 at Lv 40 though I am not sure whether that is on A spec or B spec. You apparently get about 4 or 5 chances to win one!

Currently trying to win the Historic Series. The first race at Deep Forest was OK in the 330 P4, but at Cote d'Azur the Chapparal 2J has a tendency to go off into the distance so I will probably resort to upgrading the 2J to see if I can do any better!

I was doing the Turbo races on B spec and P Newman was in a TVR Cerbera Speed 12 with almost a 1000 HP and weighing in at 1020 Kg and the Legacy's etc in the race were faster off the line. No worries on winning, but how can a 1000 HP monster be slower off the line than a 280 HP saloon car, even allowing for some wheelspin?
