I had a USB stick that I had the save backed up on, so the process is...
1. Receive Ticket.
2. Quit game and Backup save.
3. Reload GT5 and accept the car from the ticket.
4. If car is rubbish, quit the game and restore the save from the backup and repeat 3 and 4 until you get something half way (or more!) decent.
Worked for me anyway.
Been doing some of the (now easier) events on my other accounts (well one account!). Now using about 10K worth of upgrades on the cars, 8K being the tyres. Still winning comfortably. I now have an account with A spec races complete that is Lv 20 and I still most of the normal Specials to do (did the last Top Gear and the Loeb ones) and the rest of the Seasonals to do, though I will probably give the NASCAR one a wide berth! Not sure whether to bother about the Top Gear Bus event as I have access to the track on my main account.
Used Course Maker for a Circuit with 44 corners which is shared on my account and someone apparently likes it for drifitng. 64 corners on Tarmac!
