I dont think you meet the NPC unless you use the pendant. Although I'm unsure as I dont have the pendant.

I think its somthing to do with

The book of the guilty which you get from invading worlds

, which incidently I havent done either.

Beat Seath yesterday, was pretty easy even with my piddling lightning spear +5 and Havel Armor set... Now onto new londo, don't really want too though Currently 53 hrs in at level 71, END 30, VIT 26 STR 30.

Just found that the merchant in sens fortress sells large titanite, So might upgrade some weapons for trophies before I do... 3 weeks solid play, with nothing else on the go- this game is so absorbing!

Don't get too excited, the average value for weapons is 50 souls and 100 for armor. You can get a nice amount of souls for unique weapons (like the drake sword), but you'll probably want to keep them because they are unique.

          Killed

          Spear Dude and Fat Guy

yesterday on my first attempt. Well almost, I fought them once before when I first got there but this was my first serious attempt. Quite pleased with myself now . Now to kill off the bosses behind the orange doors.

They all add up though, I ended up with about 25000 souls from what I sold when I first had the opurtunity to trade.

Just a quick question for those who have completed it, how many hours did it take? Ta.

BK took just under 70. I took a little under 100. There is a speed run on youtube with a freak doing it in 90 minutes.

My first run was about 60-70 hours too.

What is this about the pendant?

                    Urrrgg!

I just spent time upgrading the tower shield thinking I would end up with the Captain America shield with Sif's soul but I ended up with a normal great shield. Well it looks normal, Astoria great shield or something

I googled it and it turns out I needed to use the moonlight butterfly soul with any shield. Well it did not give me an option with the moonlight butterfly soul, only Sif's???? I guess I needed to upgrade a normal shield. What a waste of soul

I know it my fault. Maybe I should just kill the spear man and fatty and advance the story but I feel like I need some decent weapons.

When do I get to go to the

                    crystal cave ?

                      It's part of

the Archives. You can get there once you get rid of the orange mist.

You can get rid of the mist by visiting Frampt when you have the Lordsvessel.

played about a hour so far not really enjoing this at all i liked demon souls but this is taken the smeg

got to a boss after dying loads of times beat that tauren demon moved along a bit and then got killed with one hit by a dragon back to the camp fire...then having to wade through loads of enemies to try and get back to my dead body recovered it only to be killed a few feet further on by the dragon so then having to go through all the enemies again and the frustrating part is any one of these minor enemies can kill me very easily if i make a slip up

                          The Greatshield of Artorias

is not a bad shield. First,

it has the highest stability of all shields and a decent elemental and magical protection. Sure Havel's shield has better defensive properties but it weights much more and it's not as stable. Plus it has enhaced protection against bleed/poison/curse when such attacks hit the shield, which is not bad.

                          To create the

Crystal Ring Shield you need a +10 small shield (like a buckler) and for shielding purposes it's not that great. It comes an incredible offensive weapon when paired with a strong right-hand weapon, but if you're looking for the perfect defense, you'll be disappointed.

Thanks for the tips. I was looking for an offensive shield as I have a nice choice of right hand weapon i.e. Silver knight spear, Thunder spear, Black knight sword +2. Can you upgrade a special weapon i.e Black knight sword to absorb a boss soul? I think I have enough twinkling titanite to do it.

If not where do you think twinkling titanite is best used for a toe to toe player?

Unique weapons (weapons requiring twinkling titanite or dragon scales) and ascended weapons with special qualities (raw, enchanted, magic, fire, lighting, etc etc) cannot be used to get items from boss' souls, you need a +10 "standard" weapon.

I've upgraded my black knight sword to +5 during my first playthrough and I'm pretty happy with the results.
Now I'm using twinkling titanite to upgrade the black iron armour set but each piece needs 10 titanites to be fully upgraded...it will take some time. If I'm not mistaken all greatshields require twinkling titanite for upgrades, but since they only benefit in bash damage (not stability or damage reductions), I wouldn't recommend upgrading them.

                                Woo! Finished it yesterday!

Gwyn was an arse though, and took me more tries than I would've liked. Loved the music during the fight though, and very satisfying to riposte him. Ending was short but sweet - I did not 'link the fire' (I'd sided with Kaathe over Frampt earlier too) so got the 'Dark Lord' ending - a little unsettling and very short, but quite enjoyable

. Was level 77 at that point, but have now just had a bit of a grind session in NG+ to send me up to 101. Nice.

Quick question about gear - what kind of equipment is good for a quick-moving mage type setup? I'm currently using the gold-hemmed black cloth gear, black knight shield, and a lightning spear +5 / maxed pyro flame. It's doing alright for me so far, but I can't help but get the feeling the fact I can't upgrade the base gear is going to bite me on the ass quite hard when I get further on in NG+.
