well i'm crap at games now, and thanks to ninja gaiden black's ninja dog mode (difficulty is the same but you get more life recovery thingies and stuff like that) i'm currently at level 9 and ready to fight a big army tank

having said that, it IS difficult, but it's difficult in the same way that old games are difficult, where difficult means, say, fighting a boss, dying about 5-10 times while figuring out the boss' patterns/weaknesses, then winning. simple as. it's the only post-dreamcast game that's had me nearly chucking my joypad in frustration (the only other game to do this was capcom vs snk2 but only when playing on xb live, which doesn't really count i think).

and contrary to popular belief, you don't actually have to play the entire game wearing the pink wristband thingy, so noone need ever know...

I don't mind trying to beat a boss several times, unless it takes a long time on each attempt. I only recently went back to Warcraft III on the PC after being stuck on a level where you had to survive for half an hour. I probably tried it about 10-20 times, with save games at various points and felt I was getting nowhere, always annihilated in the last 30 seconds. Coming back to it about 6 months later, I beat it on my second attempt. It's strange how these things work out.

I'll keep Ninja Gaiden on my list of titles to consider. I read some of the comments here on Ninja Gaiden Black when it came out and got the impression that it was even more difficult than the original. The extra bells and whistles are tempting but the extra difficulty is not. These days, after a tough day at work where I feel I've barely achieved anything, I want a game that will put up enough resistance but not so much that I don't feel I've made any progress.

I hesitate to reveal my ignorance, but that's lost on me.

well basically, the ninja dog mode is a hidden easy mode. you can only get it by dying 3 times on the first level, after which point the purple haired girl (ayane from doa) starts cussing you for a bit, and it all gets a bit embarassing (i nearly reset it and changed my mind i felt that bad, seriously. it was strange).

from that point on, every time you die, and also now and then throughout the levels, she'll give you rice balls to eat that give you some life back.

it was said that one trade-off is that you have to play the game with a pink wristband so anyone who sees you playing it will (probably) laugh at you, but you can take the wristband off (the wristbands do things like make you more powerful).

also, you're ranked after each level with different ranks like ninja dog, lesser ninja, ninja master etc. in ninja dog mode, i've only managed the dog and lesser ones, whereas when i played it normally, i was getting master ninja and stuff.

btw, the good thing about ninja dog mode is the game isn't cut down or anything - you still see everything that any hardcore players will see, you'll just see it easier

oh and don't worry about revealing ignorance, noone's gonna chase it up

I tend to be a bit wary of more difficult titles these days because I can find them quite frustrating. It's probably due to a combination of age and far less free time than I had when I used to complete most games in the 80s. The slowdown puts me off though. I'd rather play games at their best, so if I decide that I really want to play a title that doesn't work well under emulation, I may consider buying the older platform.

            Thanks again,

I don't really consider Ninja Gaiden to be THAT difficult. as I stated on another thread a few days ago its only really hard on the normal difficulty if you forget that there is a block button. However the whole package is just so great that even if you only ever see the first few levels I think you will be glad to own it. I also doubt it will frustrate you either, its just too much fun replaying the tougher bits. However the slow down does sound annoying.

Slowdown or not though, you NEED to play it, there really aren't many titles from this generation that would have me saying that to be honest but it is just so good.

To be honest i didnt find that, I use to love it when you could be crap at a game and still feel good about yourself, today if I find that a game is hard, I usualy feel like I'm going mentaly ill or somthing.

Thanks for putting me in the picture on the wristband.
I'll certainly consider Ninja Gaiden when I've exhausted the novelty of the 360 launch titles. That's still assuming that my 360 turns up, and in working order too.

or you could just wait for ninja gaiden on the 360, whenever that comes out...

oh and rmoxon, it's just that some of us (you) are better at games than others (me)

at least i've got street fighter. at least.

Hmmm, just put in San Andreas and it says it isn't supported. Which is weird as GTAIII and Vice City both ran fine.

Just found out about the update you have to download from the MS website, burn to disc and then load it on your 360. Bizarre. Will give it a go just now....

Which of course doesn't work as the "disc is unreadable".

If you can sort out a Live Silver account, you can download it directly, which might be a good idea if MS keeps their word on regular updates.

I've got a Gold account but the update is only available from the MS website.

Got it working now but GTA:SA still won't play. I think it might be due to the fact its the Trilogy edition.

                        Bunch of ar$e.

I did this and it worked fine, you just had the one file default.xex in the root of the cd?

Yip, it worked second time, just used a different brand of CDR.

SA still doesn't work which is a shame.

Anyone having problems with getting Halo 2 working?

I start the game, it says I need to update, I press yes, and it fails and says there was a problem, either my internet is broke, which its not, or my hard drive is full, which its not...

                              Dunno what to do..
