Now I'd like to think I'm not a particularly dull individual, but that Gyromancer game confuses the utter **** out of me.
The tutorial is next to useless and I've no idea what's going on - I get the feeling its been thrown together really and at 1200 Points it's not a good idea to baffle your consumers from the offing if you want them to splash the cash

I thought it would be too - match the gems into lines of three or more and away you go.
Except I have no idea how the game decides whether to dish out damage or not. It's totally confusing to me and if an XBLA game can't convey it's mechanics to you quickly and simply then it's not got much of a chance.

This is what happened.
Downloaded Gyromancer and was impressed by presentation, went and did tutorial ah match 3 etc ok that's fine. Went to story mode fought with Cait Sith, matched quite a few lines and made a lot happen. Then looked at my energy bar hmmm I'm almost dead lets take a look at Cait Sith full health? Matched 3 and died, begs the question was I actually killing myself???
Deleted, 1200 points saved.
Take it the whole point is to match 3 and get enough power for actual attacks, personally I do not see the appeal in puzzle quest or this style of puzzle game hybrid, they are lost to me.

I loved Puzzle Quest and it was that games simplicity that helped draw you in (only for you to find that the AI was a cheating so and so when it wanted to be, but by then you were already hooked).
This I just couldn't get what's going on - there just didn't seem to be anyway of triggering special attacks, gem patterns seemed to have totally random effects and the game was throwing red zones at me when I rotated certain gems with no real explanation of what was going on (I managed to figure out that's the area of effect).
Also the fuzzy TV screen effect is also REALLY out of place when you let it choose the move for you. A fantasy puzzle game with screen static effect...

I just had a quick go at gyromancer, its even simpler than Puzzel Quest actualy.
You simpley match up the coloured gems and once your attack bar is full there is an attack gem placed on the board, you then match gems up to the attack gem and deal damage, there are a few other things to know, such as how each monster you use in battle has an affinity for a certain colour gem that makes its attack bar grow quicker in battle but as far as basics go thats about it really.
Its typical Pop Cap style stuff really, simple and adictive fun, even though there isnt much skill required.
Also the fuzzy Tv effect is due to the game rewinding, its not letting the game choose a move for youLast edited by rmoxon; 18-11-2009, 14:57.
