Lol, why are people expecting anything less than the usual deal with Nintendo when it comes to region protection?

The fact that Nintendo haven't mentioned whether the Wii be region locked or not at the conferences so far doesn't look good.

Well, they're hand-helds, that's the point right?... That they're portable, so no region locking.

Wii is a home console. So I expect the standard affair.

Argos have it for March 2007. HMV still say this year, November 24 to be exact

Wii is region free in the same way that 360 is. I.e. publisher set.

When MCV said the Wii would release on November 24th in Europe David Yarnton said they weren't right, but were 'not far off,' so a release this year is 99.9% guaranteed, I'd say.

Will Virtual Console stuff be available everywhere, even if it didn't get a PAL release originally? If they put Earthbound on the Wii and don't let me have it I'm gonna be pissed.

So it mean I would not be able to enjoy wii on my 10 days off in from November 17th

So what five titles would you buy on launch ?

(I was hoping for Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Tramua Centre 2, Monkey Ball Banana Splitz and Battalion Wars II. )

Still it will allow me more time to save up for one

Sounds like the best compromise, and one that means a better deal for people with a PAL console. I'm just going to go full NTSC-U from the outset though, there's no reason not to.

Me too, but it's a step in the right direction. Well done to all three companies for implementing this (well done to MS for doing it last gen). Maybe next-gen, we'll have region free like handhelds I was over optimistic that Nintendo might pull it out the bag this time around.

I think we can thank MS for pioneering this and making it the expected standard, in the same way we thank Sega for pioneering 60Hz modes as standard.
