I got the point. Just not what I expected. I hadn't read, seen or heard anything about this game before playing the demo so that's why I was caught by the pace.

Doesn't it autosave? And didn't the guy behind the game say he doesn't want people to replay his game?

Cage spoke about his epic-sounding Heavy Rain thriller, and the auto-saving which is designed to stop people reloading after they make mistakes. Cage’s quote at the end of PLAY’s feature:
“I know it sounds weird, but I’d prefer people play through [Heavy Rain] once, and then maybe never replay it again. But”, he adds with a laugh, “keep it, don’t sell it.”

      Source was Play magazine interview.

Is this still the case in the final version? Does it stop you replaying sections? Is the intention still to only play it once?

        BIG QUESTION
What kind of regional differences will there be in the game?

On the Japanese PSN there is a documentary interview with a French guy who worked on Heavy Rain (the producer?), in English with Japanese ssubtitles. Near the end he says that each regional version of the game, USA, Japanese, and Europe, will be different, to suit the needs of that area.

What the hell does this mean? Are they still going to do this?

My fear is that any kind of nudity or such like will be removed from the US version because of America's fear of nipples. And any violence will be toned for the Euro version, due to Germany's inability to get over the fact they lost the war.

I want to get the definitive version - so which will it be?

From what I'd heard about it he really didn't want people to be able to play in any other way than a linear fashion from start to end. It sounded like he really didn't wan't people to be retrying scenes to load a scene to play separately and try and get a different result.

The example he gave was that if you die, your dead ad the game carries on without you being able to reload it and try again.

I wonder if there will be any manual saving in the game? The scenes that have been shown so far have been fairly short so I suppose it is possible that it will just auto save each time you complete a scene.

Aren't the japanese getting rather sensitive about their ratings and the dreaded cero-Z so they all get cut to avoid it?

              Not sex though, just gore.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

All the reviews I've read so far have mentioned being able to replay individual scenes once you've finished the game, though I don't remember off the top of my head quite how this works - e.g. can you replay a scene then continue playing from that replay once you've opened up a new path? Definitely seems as though Quantic want to have their own attempt at AitD's DVD-style chapter by chapter layout, though.

After much googling I found several news sites saying the game WILL be censored, but none of them specified how and in which region.

I don't feel like buying this until I can be certain I am getting the definitive version, with all content, as the original developers intended.

My fear is there won't be any definitive version, and each will be censored in one way or another.

Most likely the Japanese, German and Australian versions will be adapted for specific cultural needs.
European version should be uncut, just like Fahrenheit.

Could I in theory then, buy the French version, assume it's uncensored and then just select the English voice track?

The demo had English and German, which would make think the whole of Europe will get shafted.

I guess we may have to wait for its release and then await comparison reports.

The UK version got through the BBFC untouched and the US version has also been confirmed as uncut.

I don't think they've confirmed it for anywhere else but as mentioned it does tend to be the same places that fall foul so people with the Australian, German & Japanese versions are the most likely to miss out if anybody does.

Any cuts that happen could be as simple as a change of camera angles and a amendment to what the characters are saying rather than scenes being cut. I would really prefer to see the game the way the creators wanted it to be seen though.

                        EDIT:
Thinking about it, the Chronicles DLC have so far only been announced for the two regions that have also been confirmed as passing the game as uncut so I suppose there is a very slight chance that the additional scenes could be where issues lie.

In my day JPN versions of games were not subject to censorship at all. Us import types would laugh at how you were 18 months behind us and then didn't even see the severed hand. Meh.

surprisingly the australian version of fahrenheit got through fine. it was just a european version with an oflc sticker slapped over the pegi rating.

heavy rain is published by sony though is it not? i expect them to run a tighter ship

I too remember a time when Japanese games were uncensored and US/PAL versions had nudity and violence cut-out.

                                How times have changed!
