There must be some difference between cables, that's why people pay more for decent cables.
I doubt it, most of the difference between cables (past a point) is marketing guff. There was a thread on AVSForum once where someone took a variety of cables and posted pictures of a DVD playing on his plasma using all of them and asked people which picture they thought was best.

The results were completely random, sometimes favouring the second-cheapest cable, sometimes favouring the cheapest, rarely favouring the most expensive ones. Once the posters were told which cable was which people starting posting stuff like "I KNEW I could see more detail in Picture D!"

Personally I think it's a load of nonsense for people who don't trust their own eyes.

The Mad Catz cable will probably have ferrite cores on it which'd mean it's even less likely to have objectionable picture noise (I don't think the Nintendo one has those).

That's the one thing I notice with my 360 component lead... noise over places that should be solid colour. Edges are always blurry too, there's absolutely no competition when compared to the 100% perfect VGA.

Looking forward to getting the 360 HDMi cable, and then I can finally have the Dreamcast plugged into the VGA port instead.

LOL - that reminds me of the massive price I paid for my OFFICIAL Dreamcast VGA box when they first came out in Japan. ?80. Mind, I was used to using one of those pap composite to RF convertors so bagging 640x480 VGA on my PC monitor was an absolute godsend back then, so I thought ?80 was well worth it, until 3rd parties started making them at ?20 with ABSOLUTE ZERO difference in quality. LOL.

That makes me a bit of a fool for just buying a ?45 QED Component cable =P

But I hope your right, we'll see on release I suppose. I'll be the only cable avaliable to us on US launch.

Dreamcast VGA boxes? My Blaze one looks great to me Trying to find one with a VGA passthrough now.

Yeah, I use the Blaze DC VGA box as well.

Personally I buy *decent* cables and put all the cash I save into a fund that'll one day let me buy a video processor for improvements in video quality that are actually there

It depends on the cable type you are using really. I have never found all that much differenc in different component cables anyway. As long as they are all shielded 75 ohm coax and built well you shouldn't see much, if any. difference. Audio cables tend to vary and I do find that more expensive commercial offerings sound better than cheaper counterparts (generally). The biggest improvement tends to be with Scart cables. Some are so poorly made and unshielded that a decent ?20 - ?30 cable makes a world of difference.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. I've seen some absolutely hideous SCART cables but it's been ages since I ever looked at one.

Apparently VG+ should be updating to let people know if they will get one today. That's what I read over at DVDF yesterday.

                Hello Ian,

We will know today or tomorrow and will email all preorders regarding thier preorder.

                thanks,

Excellent news, I imagine I will be okay with mine, I was about half way down the NTSC list anyway, and my order was in a good while before they were taken down.

                  Heres hoping.

Good luck for everyone who ordered through VG+

With my DVDBO order looking bleak for a few weeks anyway, I decided to phone Import Madness last night and the guy said that they hadn't taken many pre-orders and they'd know if mine was ok around the middle of next week.

But, TBH, i'm taking EVERYTHING I here re:Wii allocations, numbers etc. with a pinch of salt just now.

Everyone will be sorted within a few weeks of lauch anyway in my humble opinion.

Yeah, but just how many is a 'few'

The guy geuinely seemed as though they're wouldn't be a problem. Let's face it, the vast majority of people will have preordered through VG+, then DVDBO.

                          Will keep you's updated.

The cash is out my available balance but not actually off my account yet, so I think it's just a pre-authorization.
