With regard to my sound comment, when I booted again later (without turning the telly on) I thought my machine was broken and not turning on. In fact, it was just quiet again!

Regarding the 'Full Colour Range' reset issue, some have said that it only resets after you play a BC game, however I can't comment as I haven't had the time to test, so if someone could either prove or disprove this, then that would be nice

Some have said that although it appears to reset on the XMB (and indeed has reset when you try to play a trailer), it still kicks in when you boot a disc.

Not tried myself though as I use the Limited option.

On another note, it also upscales and smoothes out any PS1 titles you have downloaded from the PSN. Wipeout now looks pretty good.

I just gave PS1 upscaling a go with FF8, and it's very good, nice and clear.

But the FF8 intro skips... doesn't do that with upscaling disabled. Odd.

My PS3 is weird, ever since I've had it and I look at the dashboard I get small white dots all over the screen (it's only on the dashboard, nothing to do with the cable and I don't get it on games). When I enable the new 'RGB Full Range HDMI setting' it gets rid of the issue I've been having. But after I exit a game and go back to the dashboard the issue comes back and I have to go back to the full range HDMI setting and reselect it again.

Some users over at AVS are reporting that .ts files do work, as long as you change the extension to .mpg (and they have to be under 4GB).

                  DVD upscaling is nice.

Streaming pictures, photos and music from my PC (Vista Ultimate) seems very slow. It takes for ever to populate the folder structure, and going to slide show took 5 minutes to prepare. Also doesn't show album art.

It still won't read NTFS external disks, so for copying too and from windows I'm limited to 32GB with 4GB files.

Good steps in the right direction.

                    That's really slow!!!

I wonder if it's anything to do with Vista? Anybody else having problems with Vista?

For me, it's worked really well. It's nearly instant when browsing and setting up the folder sharing was automatic too, all I did was accept it on my PC and it just worked.

I'm using WMP at the moment for it, but I'm not a fan of that and will be trying others shortly.

Works for me pretty much instantly too, using Vista 64-bit Home Premium.

I'm wondering if it's certain firewalls/routers that are causing problems for people as 5 minutes is far too long?

As I said, it just happened for me but I did have terrible trouble doing the same with my 360 due to Windows off kilter security systems?!?!

I finally got streaming working, UPnP was disbaled on my router for some unfathomable reason. Using TwonkeyVision and XP seems to work really well, but I'm not that keen on TwonkeyVision itself. If anyone has some other streaming applications they can suggest that would be great.

I just used mkfs.vfat in linux to format my external drive to 80GB vfat.

lets face it, its never going to support WMV or NTFS

Lol you may be right about those formats to be honest.

I don't see it as impossible though, it seems that the attitude in Sony towards different formats has reversed in the past year or so. 2 years ago they had the "Either you use Sony or you don't" attitude but in the past 12 months that seems to be changing into much more of a "We support all formats" attitude.

They do seem to have started listening to customer feedback with the updates so if enough people want it...it may happen, hopefully.

This update has almost made my 360 redundant until Mass Effect and Fable 2 arrive as I primarily seemed to use it as a DVD player.

The PS3 does a better job of that now so my room is now a lot quieter and about 10 degrees cooler since the update.
