Will this trophy system stop people from downloading/sharing game saves? What I mean is, if I wanted to I could download a completed GT5 game save so I could play straight away with all the cars and tracks couldn't I?

Will this new trophy system stop you from doing things like that?

Don't think so, the trophies are stored server side with your profile.

But doesn't that mean that people will be able to cheat the Trophy system?

I'm hoping that they stick with the retroactively earned ones only being in the games that have saves locked to one user.

It may be annoying having to play through games with trophies that you've technically already earned but I'd rather it was like that than just a free for all.

How was this handled on the 360? Was it possible to use other people's saves?

But the trophies are remembered/stored offline, then you have to synchronise them when you next connect to the interweb. I thought the SSHD patch meant any future saves were tied to that user ID anyway ? I could be wrong, read so much differing stuff over the last week.

Sure someone would have tried (and exploited and posted all over the web) the downloading a fully trophied up save by now if it was that easy. Kotaku etc would be on to it in like a second if it was possible.

I'm happy to email someone my save if they are yet to gain any trophies and want to try it out.

I found this in an interview with Criterion Games which seems to suggest that Trophies will not normally be retroactive:

Rather than having to start the game from scratch and earn all the vehicles and complete all the challenges once more, you simply download the update, and the game does the rest.
This is in the press release from Criterion which announced retroactive Trophy support:

From what they've said, Burnout is an unusual case as it has locked saves which the vast majority of games don't.

I think it would really help if Sony just release a FAQ which explained things like this as hardly any info has been released. That's probably something to do with the recall of the last firmware but they do really need to let people know as soon as they can.

                EDIT:

David, do you want to email me your save? I'll back mine up and give yours a go but hopefully it won't bring your achievements across.

Is it a US or UK game?

Mine is UK version John, will it work if yours is US ? is so can you PM me your email address and I'll do it in the next 30 minutes.

                    Mine is UK too.

I've backed up my saves, there are two files for this. I've deleted the originals and gone into the game, as expected I'm right back at the start and when I access my Trophies they are still there.

You're on 48% compared to my 42% with the shield one being the only difference so it'll be easy enough to see if it updates them when I try yours.

The more I think about it the less likely it seems that people will be able to cheat with saves. Surely Sony would have to authorise any Trophies that are added to games if they are linked like the official Trophies are so I just don't see it working as a cheat.

I've just noticed a 'turn off system' option above the first user in the userlist..

is this recent? 2.4/2.41 maybe? I don't remember it thats all

Was in the 2.40 update - well if not I never noticed it before either

Yeah, thought it was recent, how ... wonderful . .

Hadn't noticed it either, I like how they tend to just make slight improvements like that without mentioning them.

Thanks David, just tried your save. All your save has unlocked is the parts of the game that you'd unlocked as I can choose which of the planets I want to play in Arcade and I wasn't able to do that after deleting my save.

When I compare trophies with you I'm still on 42% with the Shield one being the only difference between our saves.

Strangely though I did get a pop-up when I loaded yours which said something about them deleting all Holliss2007's acquired Trophies from his profile due to...well to be honest, I didn't read it all as I'd sort of got bored by the time I got to the bit about the upcoming leg breaking, the head punching and the unbelievable hurting that this poor Holliss bloke was going to get.

Pfft, wasn't really paying attention by that time, probably wasn't important though.

You could be right as I thought I'd have a mess around.

When I look at the people listed in the Players Met section of the XMB it brings up some extra info.

I have no idea who the people are in that list but I think they are there as I accidentally switched Burnout to online for a couple of seconds while playing it.

When I select them now it brings up their card with four options in boxes along the bottom (Add a friend, Create message, Compare Trophies & Add to Block list) and also four pages in the card.

The first three pages are exactly the same but the 7 people in my list don't have any Trophies listed but I'd imagine as there is a compare trophies option that it would show their Trophies even though they aren't in my friends list but these have just not won any yet.

The new page brings up three sections titled Played, Game Title & Information. The first two just tell you what you played and when it was but the last one is empty at the moment but that may be down to the fact that Burnout hasn't had the update yet.

I've not played any of my PSN friends with my new ID so I don't know if the extra page will be added to friend's cards when you have played them or whether it'll just be on the cards in the Players Met area.

Can somebody on here check to see if it does?
