It means it'll scale content on Blu-rays to the best resolution that your TV can handle, as it does with DVDs. Obviously it's been scaling 1080p stuff down to 720p/1080i for a lot of people for a while now, but before this, if you watched a special feature on the disc that was in 480p, it would display it at that resolution, and even downscale the PS3 menus (the PS button one) as a side-effect. Now it'll scale that stuff properly.
Nice to have for that handful of 1080i Blu-rays, and also if you came across a 720p one. A BD-R recording from a camcorder, maybe?

I've mentioned it in the PSN thread, but I'm wondering if 2.42 has knobbled my PS3 as I'm getting DNS error 80710102 everytime I try to sign in, although it was working on Tuesday night when playing Uncharted. I've tried disabling the Media Server but still no luck. What to do now I wonder...
