Latest PS3 Firmware Updates

I know it's supposed to back online at 10pm but I wouldn't expect new firmware then as taking the system off line suggests that work for the update is being done on the Sony side.
I think the rumoured date of the first couple of weeks of July seem far more likely. I'm guessing the 9th or 10th of July for the updated firmware although the sooner the better for me.

That's what gives it away as being down to the firmware as historically the larger firmware updates have followed scheduled PSN maintenance by almost exactly two weeks.
Obviously there is no guarantee of that but it would set them up nicely for E3 for any related announcements for new features and Criterion have stated that Burnout will support custom soundtracks as of the 9th of July.

Burnout gets an update on the 9th and they've been saying for months that soundtracks will be available at that time.
Now that soundtracks have been confirmed as working on all games vis the XMB (No game updates needed in the game) I'm not sure how they'll be adding it via a game update. Maybe they will add it via Cagney but as the firmware is on it's way around the same time I'm not too sure they'd add it separately if it's going to be make useless via the firmware update on or close to that date.
As I said, no guaruntees but that's what I'm thinking may happen!

Once the firmware is out I'm sure the moans will continue"Where's my Trophy compatible games?!?!".
It's just what the system needs. The lack of in-game XMB for messaging was a sin from the off. The trophy system should turn a few people on, new potential PS3 owners too.Last edited by hudson; 24-06-2008, 17:36.

It did, the US one added them a couple of months back as has PAIN and at least one other game which I can't remember now.
What I'm trying to say is that maybe now that the developers know that soundtracks will be available in all games via the XMB that adding it to the game itself may seem a little pointless for what could be replaced by the more efficient way of using the XMBs memory footprint rather than the games.
