Yep I downloaded and installed it first thing this morning. Took about 15 minutes from start to finish (got it from the UK store).

Has anybody found any other stuff in it which wasn't advertised? They usually add other stuff in the "improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles" updates.

As is usual, it'll be worth checking the BC for any PS2 games that didn't work previously on BC compatible models as they seem to make more compatible with releases like this.

Are you able to access the XMB during games yet? Not being able to send/receive chat messages in game is annoying!

Nope. We're still kinda where we were before this confirmation announcement. We know it's coming, but still not sure when If it's close, then couldn't the stability update have been bundled with that? Unless a recent game was having serious problems due to firmware?

Do you think this fabled update will also allow custom soundtracks as well? Just wondering as if you'll be able to access the XMB then access to your saved music will also be available won't it? I hope so

Im bakc homw now for the summer and connecting the ps3 to the internet is pretty impossible without a gigantic cable, its a bit hassle anyway, do sony provide a direct download link for the firmware anywhere? So i can pop it on a usb stick etc

Seen a couple of postings that Firmware 2.40 may be released when E3 is on (14th to 17th July), makes sense but could be wishful thinking. So don't shoot me if it's wrong.

I really hope that some existing software will be sorted out with Trophies. I think they might make some money from potential Trophy whores. What do you think?
