I'm slightly warming to the idea of getting to play PGR3 all the way through again and my other games. Slightly.
They told me to send my HDD back but I never did. By my own experience and what others have said Microsoft just replace what you send back. So If your HDD is fine keep it and just send back the 360.

2,000 is a small number compared to the number that are out there. Well under the 5% faulty rate that's generally accepted for consumer electronics.

Mine was fine when it updated and I used component at the time. My brother's died shortly afterwards and he was using VGA. Hmm...

My 3rd one keeps crashing and giving me a weird red streaky screen tear stlye thing, I don't know if it is the new console, or the update as I got them on the same day. I'm using Vga.

            No red lights, just freezing

You would have thought so wouldn't you? Problem is that they just won't pass you on to a supervisor and the phone reps aren't allowed to do anything...

Since I've set my 360 back to 1366*768 I've lost the dodgy red streaks and my 360 hasn't crashed. Curious

Today, i've done the hard disk cache trick as mentioned here:

Because Oblivion has been giving me grief for ages due to its long menu loading/ laggy conversations etc so i thought i'd give it a try.

Now since i've done this, i've had Oblivion crash numerous times/ stripey lines on screen (hmm... coincidence ?_?)
Yet previously to me clearing the cache, i've had no such crashing issues.

Now i'm thinking of calling Xbox support to get the machine replaced.

I don't suppose anyone could supply me with the number to call?

I'm expecting mine back sometime today or tomorrow, I can't check where it is, becuase the tracking number MS sent me isn't recognised by UPS. Grrr.

OK. My 360 freezes occasionally and I'm forced to turn the console off and back on again. Probably once or twice every day/other day. It tends to happen when I'm using the xbox guide. For example, a couple of times when I've been looking at my friends list or entering a message. Is this a common experience? I assume it is, it's just that I heard someone say their 360 was out of warranty and since I bought it in January I was worried about it breaking and MS refusing to replace it.

Is it more prone to crashing when connected to Xbox live? I seem to recall having to disconnect ages ago to prevent this. The 360 has had a fair bit of use over the last month and been on for many hours at a time!

I wonder if it might be that it's overheating - here's a pic of where it

Thanks in advance for any help,

                        mono.

coulda been me - mine was voided cos i opened the damn thing up. all 360's are still under warranty, time-wise, as they're not even a year old yet. they don't ask for purchasing info, other than date of purchase (i just look at the console mfr date and choose something a bit later than that )

That's a relief. I asked over at GR and apparently it's just poor code, so a patch in the future should sort it.

Mine just arrived back and it's a new unit! No problems at all so far, and it *seems* to run a bit quieter than my launch day unit.

10/10 for MS customer support really. In all I was Xbox'less for less than 5 days, and it would have been less had it not been for the weekend.
