Sounds like the laser is having trouble "focusing" on the disc - My old xbox1 started doing this after years of (ab)use.

I had my first incident last night where I thought mine had died - Left Battlefield demo downloading and went next door - came back maybe 90 minutes later and the screen was all green/white boxes and **** - I shat my pants.

However, switched it off and on again, fired up the battlefield demo and it was all there and the machine ran fine.

I do believe it's only a matter of time though.

Pretty silly poll as you'd better not tempt fate by clicking 'no'.

Refurnished units should be a thing of the past. I remember getting skanky PSXs back from Sony that stunk of fags and had dog hairs inside. :/

My old xbox used to have failed to load map errors on Halo, and scratched the bejesus out of disks, and looks like this one is following suit.

Your not getting the checkers of terror are you Yosh - Mine had about 10 days left in it once that started

That actually happened to me on my Japanese machine about two days after I got it (probably on either the first or second demo I grabbed from marketplace).

In the 3 and a half months since then I haven't had it happen again yet. The only game I've had lots of problems with is Full Auto, which has crashed on me a few times. Hardly play that since I got Burnout though Apart from Full Auto, I've only had about two other freezes.

I really hope my 360 doesn't start showing signs of kicking the bucket, as I don't think MS would be very receptive if I said "Yeah, the 360 I imported from Japan has just died, fancy sending me a replacement?" Fingers crossed it'll keep ticking along nicely like it has so far.

It's a bit dodgy MS having such flakey hardware though. Games freezing and crashing, games needing patches... it's like owning a ****ing PC

My 360 likes to scratch my discs too. Also had lots of problems in Oblivion (compared to none with Kameo, Condemned, PGR3 and CoD 2 all in single-player) with crashes and bugs plenty. This is probably the game though.

Is anyone having problems with the second BLACK update working? I was, untill I stumbled upon this:

                    http://forums.xbox.com/3450725/ShowPost.aspx

Basically if you eject the disk when it asks to update, it goes through fine!

                    Boo for M$oft QA
Hooray for the interweb and it's fault finding greatness....

Anyway just thought it was worth a mention!

I almost just cacked my pants, I fired up the 360 for some nocturnal Oblivion and got a "to play this disc please insert it in an Xbox 360" (or similar) message.
Cue a "wtf? this is a 360" moment

A reboot sorted it no problem though

I had the same message on a different game ages ago. It takes the pee-pee to say the least.

Yeah, I started getting that on my old 360 before it broke, nothing since replacing it though. When it appeared my mate and I just looked at each other and laughed like "wtf is going on!?"

Interestingly I only experienced this after switching my 360 to vertical orientation. Also, I have noticed that sometimes Oblivion will freeze for speech to load when interacting with NPCs as well as slightly longer loading times between areas. I never experienced this previously. Is the 360 slightly less reliable standing vertically or is it just me

Well I am on 360 number 3 now

The first one lasted about two months - then started freezing regularly
The second one lasted 45 minutes - one switch off and on and then E 79 error
The Third one seems ok but the drive is much noisier than the others and it makes a clicking noise when you first turn it on that the others did not. I give it a month tops!!

I would be abit cautious with the 'clicking' sound m8. Thats what mine did before it chewed a disc.
