    3 rings of death, again...

OK so I have a warranty, so what. PS2 USA (yes PS2) bought from Tronix on USA launch day has never missed a beat, PlayStation, Dec 1994, Never missed a beat. PS3 never misses a beat (and is QUIET). Super Famicom, N64, Gamecube etc never missed a beat.

360, f**ked again. Microsoft should subcontract this out and stick to software

I'm about to go Fist of the North Star on my 360

I noticed when playing games that stream intensively like Gears that I was getting short stutters or loading pauses which I'd never experienced before. Then the other day when Ninja Gaiden 2 came out, I noticed the BRAND NEW DISC that had come from the box straight into the machine came out with circular marks on it. It stutters a hell of a lot too.

Now I just started level 7 and after the initial battle and cutscene, it won't load past where the hanger doors start to open

Obviously my drive may be about to fail but hey that's life with the 360. What I'm more interested in finding out is whether MS will replace my b0rked disc/s. I seem to recall hearing they were running a replacement programme of some sort. Having said that I don't relish calling them up and trying to sort out replacements after the run-around they gave my brother to replace his broken Guitar Hero controller.

EDIT - Also could anyone tell me if laying the machine flat instead of standing up will reduce or eliminate the disc scratching as a short-term fix?

Are these marks all the way round the disc? The 360 also has a tendency to leave heavy scuffs on the disc - these can be cleaned off with the correct fluid and a cloth.

If it is a scratch, getting MS to replace the discs will be an absolute nightmare. I had this problem last year. It took ALL DAY making phone calls. They did give in eventually, offering me a free copy of Viva Pinata as compensation.

They do do disc replacement for MS-published games. It costs ?10.

Horizontal all the way Matteh! I only once got a scratched disc which happened when I had my machinne standing vertically and Mrs G ran over the ethernet cable with the hoover.

He hasn't always been an unemployed bum

I took my Ninja Gaiden 2 disc to Game Station and got it buffed in their machine and it looks like new. I've also got my machine laying flat on top of my TV unit but it's still freezing during loads. I'm getting deja-vu of when my first machine died right now. I layed it flat as a last resort and the heat finished it off

I think the best I can hope for is that it dies quickly since I only have until 1st July on my (new) warranty. Then I can at least get it replaced with one of those new motherboard ones.

The hoovering incident was shortly after the 360 was released. Also, I will be doing a spot of paid employment over the next few weeks before we head off to the States for a four month holiday. Well, holiday for me, not for Mrs G.

                  Anyways...

                  KEEP YOUR 360 VERTICAL!

Yes. Yes I do. Except for Matty.

My repair launch model 360 appears to be playing up. I got a brand new sealed GTA today and it has stopped twice after about fives mins giving me a disc read error message. This has also happened fairly recently on Pro Evo and Mass Effect, does the lense just need cleaning or is this a more serious problem?
If it is, is something MS will fix or is my 360 in serious danger?

Please help. I haven't touched my 360 in weeks and when I finally get a game I want to play it breaks!

First time I've had some trouble today. Playing GRID, brand new, spotless disc, and I got a Disc Read Error! First time that's ever happened! Hasn't happened again, might have just been some dust or something?

                          Signs of impending doom?!

                            @Yorath and Friction:

Tis the laser starting to go on the 360s - try a cleaning disc on them and see if this improves them. You'll prolly find some discs will play perfectly, some will DDE. If the cleaning doesn't work, then I'm afraid the lasers on its way out (I'll bet you've got Toshiba-Samsung drives) - replacing them is easy enoughish, but MS will charge you for it if the machines over a year old

My 360 keeps locking up, no 3 red lights and only occasionaly gets read errors.

It's happened on a few different games, most notibly Burnout Paradise where it locks on the car selection screen every time.

Spent ages on the phone to MS who want £65 quid for the repair.

I'm not sure if i should get a new machine as i was told the turnaround for repair is about 3 weeks.

If the 360s locking up, is this with the DDE? If it isn't, then there's a borked joint on your GPU that's prolly going to result in the 3lods sadly Saying that though, at least when it finally gives up the goat, you'll get a free repair....
