    Currently on my 2nd box. The tray wasn't opening at all when in vertical, so i attacked it with much vigour, and now it works! Still, i'll probably take it into the local currys and make up a fault before the guarantees up, get a spangly new unit.

          Mine has been fine so far (touch wood ) but I was wondering what Currys are like during the original 1 year warranty?

          I had problems with a dvd player I bought from there, and they kept fobbing me off, saying it had to be sent off for an engineer to inspect it, and I wasn't entitled to a refund or replacement even though it was only about 7 months old.

            Currys have always been great with me,

            I originally bought my launch machine from Currys Online and didn't take an extended warrenty, After about 10 months it kept crashing then eventually died. I sent it to Microsoft and received a manky refurb that was more yellow than white and sounded like a bag of ****.

            So took that in, exchanged for a new one and took the 5 year coverplan from them. Used it twice now and each time has been completely painless, drive to the store, explain whats wrong and it's instant replacement for Games Consoles.

            Really can't fault them and if my US PS3 ever messes up I know who'l definately get my custom, and 5 yr service plan!

            Just for reference in case people are wondering, the 5 yr service plan cost me £70, so rather than forking out this amount each time with Microsoft Refurbs it might be worth doing the same as I did.....Deffo money well spent (Well actually it shouldn't be if Microsoft actually made a reliable machine)

                Aside from the main faults number listed on the xbox.com page, does anyone know of a general Microsoft customer service number to lodge complaints with?
                UPS have delivered my console to the wrong address the first delivery attempt, and then it didn't show up at all the second time. I'm told it was delivered and signed for, but my building has no record of UPS making any deliveries on the day they said and UPS can't seem to find the name/address of whoever signed for it. I've lodged a complaint with UPS but I don't rly know what to do.

                  So, I recovered my gamertag from Live today, and my Achievements/Gs are back to the same level they were a fortnight ago - 3300 instead of 4780 like they were last night. All my save games are still intact though, so I load up my Crackdown game, and straight away get the Achievements I'd got in the last two weeks, 3 in total, the driving ones. Good start, thought I...

                  Loaded up Rainbow Six: Vegas and reloaded the last checkpoint - completed the dam, up pops Achievement unlocked. Unfortunately it's only for the dam, so no Achievement for doing level 3, 4 or 5 at normal.

                  Kameo - loaded up in the Water Temple - nothing. I've got one Achievement for rescuing the first warrior, and I've obviously got the next ones to get to this point, like

                  My 100% save game of Kong gives me only 3 Achievements.

                  It's really peed me off - obviously save games shouldn't just give you Achievements, cos people will cheat that, but saves shouldn't be transferrable anyway, AND MY PROFILE SHOULD NEVER HAVE GOT BLOODY "CORRUPTED!"

                  And to top it off, tred border town tango hunt split screen again, down to 4 enemies, and it freezes again, this time I actually made it into the church cellar. Is this most likely the fault of the disc, or hardware?

                  Bloody pile of junk, I like the machine a LOT, but the faults really make me despair, I's struggle to recommend the machine now

                    As requested the poll has been reset for a second time.

                        I get the random freezing as do most people but I am also on my second machine.

                        I bought my 1st 360 in October 06 and it was displaying the red ring of doom before December!

                          I'm far too scared to vote this time...surely any choice is basically a challenge to your 360 to die the next time you dare start it up?

                            Im on my third machine now. Had my launch machine replaceed free of charge and then the replacement broke a few weeks ago. Despite much begging they refused to replace it for free so I sold it on e-bay and bought a core from boots when they were on offer.
                            New machine is much queiter than the other 2 and seems to generate less heat. Hopefully this will last longer than six months!

                              Is there anything actually different about newer models? Yoshi said he thought his new Core was quieter too, but I didn't know anything had changed inside yet..

                                Just bought a new PAL Xbox 360 today, can't say it's noticeably quieter than my Japanese Xbox 360 that I owned back in Sept/October last year.

                                I'm hoping this new one lasts longer than the 6 weeks the Japanese one worked for, it's good to be back though.
