They don't apparently which is unfortunate given that mine recently refused to read any disk that I stuck into it - good luck getting anywhere with GAME as well, as far as things like this go they're pretty much the worst company to deal with. The store manage will likely try and wash his hands of it.

Game will only exchange it if you have had it less than a year. When I rang MS with my faulty xbox they said they would only repair / replace if it was under a year old. (Thank god at this point id not given the serial)
I rang back and got a different person and said id had it 11 months and give him my serial and they replaced it
They didnt as for proof or anything wooo hooo

Forza 2 finished off my 360 too. It had already been playing up for a few weeks but just 5 minutes of Forza 2 killed it completely.
@ Andy, if you can't afford to have Microsoft repair it you might wanna consider these guys, http://www.360repair.co.uk/ , they repaired my 360 in a couple of days, are much cheaper than Microsoft and actually modify the console to help avoid future problems.

Just got my third 360 from HMV. I'm going to be using the play and charge kit trick all the time now. Hopefully that will help it last, but not just over twelve months.
I now have arcade games which I need to be on live for. Is MS fairly good at fixing the offline arcade game problem these days?

I wonder what the actual failure rate is for 360s?
I know that Microsoft are quoting 30%, which is ridiculously high, but it seems very low compared to the figures that 360 owners are giving.
We're running at 82.54% here and that counts for one vote per person, meaning if your 360 breaks more than once your vote only counts as one.
Working it out from the figures here it's 122 breakages for 63 machines???
Which ever way you do the maths...there really isn't a good angle you can put on these figures.

I don't know what the exact figure is but it's way too many. Everyone with a 360 I know (5 people including myself) has had it fail, on top of that I've received messages from around 50% (roughly 50 people) of those on my friend's list at some point or other saying their machine has failed, sometimes more than once.
I appreciate the 360 is a complex machine but the failure rate is unacceptable, especially compared to other consoles, and I'm surprised people aren't kicking up more of a fuss about it.

None of my friends with 360s have had no problems at all. One of my friends only bought one, I think it was three months ago and he's on his third already.
You're right about it being a complex machine but to be honest, all consoles are complex machines and I've not heard of anything close to these figures anywhere else.

Looks like I'll soon be on my third 360 in just three months. The first chewed up my Gears of War disc within a few weeks, and its replacement - which strangely has been fine for two months - has decided to scratch the hell out of Forza 2. Oddly, all my other games are fine.
The first was used vertically, the second horizontally. Neither have been moved while turned on In fact they haven't been moved *at all*. But both have decided to carve lovely circular grooves into my games.
So now MS are asking me to send the machine to them so they can 'investigate'. Then I have to wait for their 'verdict'. If they believe the machine to be at fault they will fit a new drive. Then I will have to send the disc to them to be replaced. Or, I was hellpfully told, I could use their disc replacement service. Costs a tenner. Er, no thanks.

Emailed them & they said they've not heard of any others with my problem & think its nusual as the console seems to think its not broken (no red lights)
Gave me a list of things to try (unplug, remove HD etc) but i know its definitely ****ed. There's a couple of people in this thread whose consoles seem to have went the same way.
Said they'd take a look at it though & see if they can fix it + would refund in unable to. Might give them a try depending how it goes with GAME.

I dont know about that. Been reading the "my 360 is dead" thread over at the avforums & there's a lot of people just this & last month having success getting GAME to replace launch machines & ones over a year old. They seem like one of the better places to be dealing with when you've got an out of warranty machine as long as you dont just give up when the shop says no.
As expected the stores on the hight street wont do anything but as soon as everyone sends letters off to head office quoting the Sale of Goods Act they've all had replies stating they'll replace the console as a "goodwill gesture" + been given addresses to send their broken 360 to.
Brand new replacements seem to be coming back pretty quick & looks like people are even being alowed to keep their hard drives.
Ive spoke to the shop where they cant/wont do anything & will be sending a letter off on Monday. Hopefully ill be able to get a replacement.

Andy if you do a search for me on here I did a post of what happened with me with Game, just follow that m8
It is here m8...
I won't be able to reply to any PMs now as on respite hols in about 3hours.
Just phone trading standards and log a official complaint about the nearest store you went to. Then write a letter (photocopy/print a copy) and send it recorded delivery to their head office (you can find Games head office on the net). Also if you paid by credit card log a complaint with them (they will want you to pay around £6 for a bank statement with the transaction on before they proceed) and go from their. DONT send the machine back to Microsoft as your contract is with Game only.
Worst case you will have to pay for an engineers report and £30 for small claims court but their has been so many cases to use for reference now of the internet that the durability clause will go in your favour (trading standards will tell you up to 5yrs).

Just to add Im on my 3rd machine. 1st one died (launch day machine) on end of December (only 3 weeks old!) 2nd one back end of Feb this year (one I had trouble getting sorted with Game) 3rd one I got sorted about end of March (it took about 3-4weeks to get sorted with Game).
Myself I understand when things break thats not the issue for me, the issue is with companies what refuse to do anything and break consumer law, really gets my back up and just makes me fight them harder!!!
